Paying for forest environmental services for 422 households in Phong Nien commune

On May 27, Lao Cai Provincial Forest and Environment Protection Fund coordinated with Bao Thang District Post Office, District Forest Protection Department and Phong Nien Commune People's Committee to organize payment of forest environmental services to forest owners who are households in Phong Nien commune.

This year, Phong Nien commune received about 260 million VND in forest environmental services, of which 140 million VND was paid directly to 422 households who are forest owners, the rest was allocated to the Commune People's Committee and the Bao Thang District Forest Protection Management Board.

Many forest areas of households in Phong Nien commune are eligible for payment for forest environmental services.

In Bao Thang district, there are currently more than 6,205 hectares of forest in the basin that are paid for forest environmental services. The total annual payment to beneficiaries, such as the District Forest Protection Management Board, households, individuals and the Commune People's Committee, is estimated at nearly 3 billion VND/year. In particular, households are one of the main beneficiary groups, thereby contributing to improving income and improving the lives of local people.

Phong Nien commune people receive money for forest environmental services.

The source of payment comes from organizations and enterprises using forest environmental services, entrusted through the Provincial Forest and Environment Protection Fund. Beneficiaries are organizations, households, individuals, village and hamlet communities and households contracted to protect forests with forest areas located in the basins of hydropower plants.

Propagating the policy of payment for forest environmental services to people.

In addition to payment activities, the Provincial Forest and Environment Protection Fund also integrates propaganda on the policy of payment for forest environmental services to raise people's awareness of the role of forests, the responsibility of protecting, developing forests and protecting the environment. This policy contributes to creating a stable source of income for households, encouraging people to be more active in forest protection work.
