Up to this point, the chicken livelihood model of Mrs. Tran Thi Dung (Thuong Nguyen village) has been effective, helping farmers escape the list of poor households.
Her husband has been sick for a long time, and the family is purely agricultural, so in 2022 and 2023, Mrs. Tran Thi Dung (born in 1968, in Thuong Nguyen village, Dong Kinh commune) is a near-poor household in the old Thach Kenh commune. To help Mrs. Dung's family rise up, at the end of 2023, the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021 - 2025 (abbreviated as the Poverty Reduction Program) supported 120 breeding chickens, 200 kg of feed, some probiotics, technical guidance... for the family to develop household-scale chicken farming. Up to this point, this model has been effective.

Besides the money from selling chickens,
Every day, Mrs. Dung also has extra money from selling "clean" eggs to cover expenses and improve her life.
Ms. Dung shared: “The livelihood chicken flock is very important to my family. The first batch, I sold for nearly 20 million VND. This money helped me pay off my debts and continue to buy breeding chickens. Thanks to taking advantage of agricultural by-products, cutting more vegetables, knowing how to take care of hens so they lay eggs regularly... the last 6 batches have all brought a profit of 10-12 million VND. Now that I have capital, the livelihood chicken flock of more than 100 chickens is growing well, I plan to apply to leave the near-poor household at the end of this year.”

Dong Kinh commune officials came to grasp the situation and encouraged Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (sitting outside, right) to maintain the chicken raising model that had been supported to have more income and gradually stabilize her life.
Having successfully re-herded, the chicken flock raised to serve the traditional Tet market this year is also growing rapidly, so Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (born in 1965, in Thuong Nguyen village) is very happy. Ms. Hue shared: “My husband was sick for a long time and then passed away, my child is suffering from a terminal illness and needs treatment, I am old and weak so life is extremely difficult. More than a year ago, the Poverty Reduction Program supported 140 breeding chickens, which helped me have more resources to improve my livelihood. Up to this point, I have re-herded 3 times and will continue to raise them, it is really a lifesaver to help me escape poverty”.

The female calf received from the Poverty Reduction Program more than 2 years ago has been cared for by Mrs. Nguyen Thi An's family (Tri Le village) to become a good, productive sow.
Along with the flocks of chickens that are multiplying, many poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in Dong Kinh commune also have fat cows and fast-growing calves from the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program. The herd of cows has brought in a significant source of income, and has valuable livestock as “savings”, helping disadvantaged people have a foothold to confidently rise up.
Mr. Le Van Hue (born in 1962, in Thong Nhat village) said: “My family is a near-poor household, my situation is difficult because my wife had an accident and had to be treated continuously, the starting point was low, there were few fields, and the garden was small. In 2022, my family received 8 million VND from the Poverty Reduction Program to buy breeding cows. Thanks to choosing good sows and taking good care of them, up to now, the initially supported cow has given birth to 3 calves, the 2 calves born earlier have been sold for a total of 25 million VND. The steady annual income from the sow has helped my family ease difficulties, improve family life, and have money to treat my wife's illness...".

The livelihood cow supported by the Poverty Reduction Program has become a great joy for the family of Mr. Le Van Hue and Mrs. Dang Thi Cuoi.
To accompany and "support" the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program, specialized departments and mass organizations at all levels in the area have been involved consistently and responsibly. Thereby, creating synchronization, maintaining continuity, and being a solid foundation for those in difficult situations to constantly rise up and confidently escape poverty.
Mr. Truong Viet Luan - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dong Kinh commune affirmed: "The Farmers' Association and mass organizations in the area always demonstrate their sense of responsibility in participating in all stages and steps to implement the sub-project on livelihood support. In particular, we have effectively accompanied right from the stage of approving subjects, orienting the purchase of breeding animals to supporting the care and development of livestock herds, minimizing the loss of capital, spreading the effectiveness of the program... Thereby, contributing to bringing the Party and State's policies and guidelines into life, helping disadvantaged member families to gradually rise up".

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Thong Nhat village) always takes special care of the mother cow and her calf, seeing this as an opportunity for the family to escape difficult circumstances.
With the spirit of "For the poor - No one left behind", Dong Kinh commune has focused on timely, effective and targeted implementation of livelihood support models for the poor. Up to now, the whole commune has 145 poor, near-poor and newly escaped poverty households supported with cows and chickens for livelihood with a total amount of over 2 billion VND, each household is supported with an average of 8 - 16 million VND. This livestock has contributed to creating a new vitality in production, helping beneficiaries have the "key" to open the gate to prosperity and sufficiency.
Ms. Vo Thi Thu - an expert from the Economic Department, in charge of the Poverty Reduction Program (Dong Kinh Commune) affirmed: “The sustainable poverty reduction program has been implemented promptly, effectively, and to the right target, ensuring its significance in Dong Kinh Commune, especially the sub-projects on livelihood support. The process of supporting "fishing rods" for the poor has been closely followed by the entire political system and the whole society, so the beneficiaries are excited and the people agree. Currently, the departments, functional branches, and villages are focusing on urgently reviewing and selecting beneficiaries, completing the dossiers, continuing to support all the allocated funds in 2025 (about 1 billion VND) and completing the goals and targets set by this program in the period 2021 - 2025"
