Hai Ly ruined church (Hai Ly commune, Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh ) also known as "Heart Church" was built in 1943, designed by a French architect. This is one of the unique and famous architectural works in Nam Dinh.
The ruined church with its wild beauty, converging the beauty of the sea, golden sunshine, and white sand. The building is a unique tourist attraction that attracts many tourists in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh.
According to local people, this land used to be a complex of many large and small churches. In 1996, the sea began to encroach on the mainland and the coastal strip was eroded more than 1km deep. It was this deep encroachment that caused the coastal villages of Xuong Dien (Hai Hau district) to gradually disappear.
As a result, the Heart Church was abandoned. Later, the building was called Hai Ly ruined church by the locals.
After many constructions and repairs, Hai Ly Church now only retains the bell tower, foundation, and part of the surrounding wall as evidence of the encroachment of nature.
The church is located on Xuong Dien beach in Hai Ly commune, Hai Hau district. This is a famous destination that has attracted thousands of tourists, especially young people.
Not only does it have a wild and ancient beauty, the church also has many historical, religious, cultural and environmental values. Many of the church's decorative motifs are built in European style, meticulously, elaborately and beautifully.
The arches are soft and flexible in design, with a durable structure.
Through many events, the project still retains its wild beauty.
Many of the church's structures have been destroyed by wind and sea water. The foundations of what was once a magnificent and splendid church still remain.
Around the church area, there is a warning sign with the content "For your safety, the bell tower area often has falling bricks and mortar, please do not enter".
According to the reporter, the bell tower area has been surrounded by a 2m high steel fence, and visitors cannot go inside.
The sea dike system in the area of the Hai Ly church is about 1.5m higher than the ground. However, many people who do business here said that on days when the tide is high, big waves often break over the dike surface.
From the afternoon of the third day of Tet, hundreds of tourists from inside and outside Nam Dinh province flocked to Hai Ly ruined church to visit, take photos and enjoy seafood at restaurants around the ruined church.
"This morning my husband and I went to celebrate Tet with relatives in Giao Thuy district (Nam Dinh). In the afternoon, the family took the opportunity to go to the ruined church to play and take photos of the first spring trip of the year," shared Ms. Minh Tam (28 years old, resident of Tien Hai district, Thai Binh ).
To ensure the safety of residents and visitors, a wire fence was erected around the bell tower of the collapsed Hai Ly church.
