In the first quarter of 2025, the country's seafood output reached 880,000 tons, no increase compared to the same period last year, while aquaculture output increased by more than 5%, seafood export turnover reached nearly 2.3 billion USD, a sharp increase of more than 18% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, removing the EC's yellow card on seafood is considered a key strategic task for the seafood industry, in the context of strong export recovery but also facing many geopolitical and trade risks.

The role of Border Guards, fishing ports and local management agencies is very important in controlling and making lists to ensure that fishing vessels do not exploit foreign waters.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, shared that removing the EC's yellow card is not only a mandatory requirement to maintain the recovery momentum but also a prerequisite to expand the seafood export market, especially to the European Union (EU) market.
“By all means, we must prevent and minimize the situation of fishing vessels violating foreign waters. If there are violations, we must strictly handle them. In addition, we must manage fishing vessels and ensure that fishing vessels operating at sea meet the conditions.
The role of Border Guards, fishing ports and local management agencies is very important in controlling and making lists to ensure that fishing vessels do not exploit foreign waters.
Regarding the traceability of seafood, it is necessary to strengthen control and confirmation at ports as well as certification at the Departments and enterprises, ensuring that 100% of shipments exported to the EU market and other markets must be legal," Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung emphasized.
