The Provincial People's Committee deployed Plan 556/KH-UBND, dated September 13, 2021, on strengthening plastic waste management. The whole province organized 36 classes to propagate waste classification, proper disposal, handling of violations and forms of environmental sanitation in public places, the harmful effects of plastic waste... for 3,001 people and 445 medical establishments to participate; distributed 1,961 water bottles to students, more than 1.2 tons of biodegradable bags, 57,987 propaganda leaflets; distributed 3,950 bougainvillea trees, 3,950 decorative flower trees, 140 trash cans, 300 trash cans... Schools collected 7.1 tons of nylon bags and plastic bottles to exchange for notebooks for students. Along with that, organized plastic waste recycling contests, creative environmental ideas festivals, "People's market to reduce plastic waste" model...

The district People's Committee coordinated to implement the model of "Clean alley - beautiful yard - civilized neighborhood", "Protecting the environment with farmers"; organized 15 propaganda sessions, gave 900 bags, 1,600 trash cans to people to sort waste at source; collected and destroyed 900kg of packaging. Integrated propaganda on the collection of plastic waste and pesticide containers in 400 seminars, with the participation of more than 12,000 farmers.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented the collection and treatment of plastic waste in the livestock sector, destroying 18,292 bottles and jars. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with the District People's Committee to implement the model of "Waste classification at source" for 76 households on boats and rafts; implemented 5 models of classifying domestic solid waste at source associated with new rural construction; and presented 600 trash bins to households.

Long Xuyen City organizes many activities in response to World Environment Day June 5 and International Day for Biological Diversity 2023. Strengthen propaganda activities to raise public awareness of environmental protection, promote movements to contribute to nature conservation, create environmental landscapes in residential areas and public places. Strive by 2025 to use 100% of environmentally friendly bags in shopping malls and supermarkets for daily use instead of non-degradable nylon bags; ensure collection, reuse, recycling and treatment of 85% of plastic waste; reduce 50% of plastic waste on rivers, canals, ditches...; 100% of tourist areas, tourist accommodation establishments, hotels do not use non-degradable nylon bags and disposable plastic products; gradually reduce the production and use of non-degradable nylon bags and disposable plastic products...

Accordingly, localities in the province have implemented many activities to raise awareness of environmental protection among the community, especially young people and businesses, about the importance of environmental protection for socio-economic development. Organizing community activities, such as: rallies, environmental sanitation campaigns, tree planting, waste collection and treatment.

Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2023 has the theme "Sustainable exploitation and use of resources, protection of marine and island environment". An Giang province is not adjacent to the sea, so the activities responding to Vietnam Sea and Islands Week from June 1 to 8, 2023 will be integrated into the activities responding to World Environment Day, creating a series of events for the Month of Action for the Environment.
