Lunar New Year 2023, civil servants and public employees will have 7 consecutive days off
After reviewing the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs , on the morning of December 1, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam issued a document agreeing to the plan to extend the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday to 7 days.
Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will have Tet holiday 2023 from Friday, January 20, 2023 to Thursday, January 26, 2023 (ie December 29, Year of the Tiger to January 5, Year of the Cat).
The above Tet holiday schedule applies to cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations and socio-political organizations.
For non-state employees, the ministry recommends that employers decide on a suitable 2023 Lunar New Year holiday plan based on the unit's reality.
The unit's Lunar New Year holiday plan must ensure 5 days, including 1 day for the old year and 4 days for the new year; or 2 days for the old year and 3 days for the new year.
If the official Tet holiday coincides with a weekly day off, employees will be compensated with days off on the following working days. Units choose a suitable holiday schedule and notify employees at least 30 days in advance.
For the 2023 National Day holiday, the Government agreed to a 4-day holiday plan.
Civil servants and public employees are off from Friday, September 1, 2023 to Monday, September 4, 2023.
The Government also requested that agencies and units implementing the above holiday schedule must arrange work units reasonably to handle work continuously, ensuring good service to organizations and people.
Previously, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs submitted to the Prime Minister a plan for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2023. The proposal to the Prime Minister for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2023 was developed based on the opinions of 16 ministries and branches, of which 14 ministries and branches sent written comments.
For Lunar New Year, 10/14 ministries and sectors suggested choosing a 7-day holiday; 2 ministries and sectors suggested a 9-day holiday; one agency suggested an 8-day holiday. This ministry chose a 7-day consecutive Lunar New Year holiday, following the opinions of the majority of ministries and sectors. Based on the opinions of the ministries and sectors, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs submitted to the Prime Minister both options for the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday.
Option 1: Closed from Friday (January 20, 2023) to Thursday (January 26, 2023), that is, from December 29, the year of the Tiger to January 5, the year of the Cat. The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs assessed that this option ensures that the number of Tet holidays is not too long (7 consecutive days), harmonizes the number of days off before Tet (2 days) and after Tet, creating conditions for people to travel and shop for Tet, and is also agreed by most ministries and branches.
Option 2: Civil servants and public employees will have Tet holiday 2023 from Saturday (January 21, 2023) to Sunday (January 29, 2023), that is, from December 30, year of the Tiger to January 8, year of the Cat. According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, this option has a long holiday (9 consecutive days), but in the old year, there was only 1 day off (30th of Tet), causing pressure on traffic, travel, and Tet shopping for people. This option is also only chosen by 2 ministries and branches.
