Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives supports moving towards visa exemption for Vietnamese citizens

On the afternoon of December 18 local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President of the Japanese Senate Otsuji Hidehisa and Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Nukaga Fukushiro.
These are the last activities of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh before leaving Japan, successfully concluding his working trip to Japan and attending the ASEAN-Japan 50th Anniversary Summit from December 15 to 18. At the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the visit to Vietnam by the President of the Japanese House of Councilors last September was one of the important events, contributing to enhancing political trust, understanding and exchange between the National Assembly and parliamentarians of the two countries.

At the same time, he suggested that President Otsuji and the Japanese House of Councilors promote and further strengthen the role of the two National Assemblies in developing bilateral relations; promote exchanges between young parliamentarians, female parliamentarians as well as exchanges between friendship parliamentarian groups between the two countries and exchanges between the young generation. In addition, the Prime Minister also suggested that the Japanese House of Councilors pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the community of more than 520,000 Vietnamese people living in Japan, including the policy of tax exemption for Vietnamese workers. Mr. Otsuji Hidehisa expressed his delight at the ASEAN-Japan Joint Statement at the summit celebrating the 50th anniversary of relations, agreeing to continue maintaining the ASEAN-Japan Youth Exchange Program. The exchange programs have actively contributed to promoting mutual understanding between the young generations of the two countries. The President of the Japanese Senate also affirmed his desire to promote the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all fields, and to increase exchanges and close cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in the coming time.

On the same day, at a meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nukaga Fukushiro, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Japanese House of Representatives for their cooperation and support for the development of Vietnam-Japan relations in recent times. In addition, he asked Speaker Nukaga Fukushiro and the Japanese House of Representatives to pay attention to and support the enhancement of multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Japan within the framework of the new comprehensive strategic partnership. The Prime Minister also asked the Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives to promote and effectively implement the new generation ODA program with high incentives, simple and flexible procedures for large-scale strategic infrastructure development projects in Vietnam, in the fields of green transformation and digital transformation; strengthen local cooperation, people-to-people exchange, labor cooperation, and human resource training. Sharing memories of his first visit to Vietnam 35 years ago, the Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives said he was very impressed and admired Vietnam's remarkable development in recent times. He highly appreciated the diligence and dynamism of the workers, the advantages of Vietnam's population and human resources. Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro pledged to support policies to improve living conditions for Vietnamese people in Japan, improving income in the context of the devaluation of the yen. In particular, he expressed his support for simplifying procedures and moving towards visa exemption for Vietnamese citizens entering Japan.

On the evening of December 18, before leaving Japan, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Masayuki Hyodo, Chairman and General Director of Sumitomo Corporation.

In Vietnam, Sumitomo participated in a joint venture to invest in a smart urban area north of Hanoi (4.13 billion USD), invested in industrial parks Thang Long 1 (Hanoi), 2 (Hung Yen) and 3 (Vinh Phuc); participated in the EPC construction of metro project No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, and the BOT Van Phong 1 thermal power project (2.58 billion USD).

Sumitomo plans to increase the use of renewable energy sources in projects in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he has directed agencies to urgently complete the development of regulations on direct electricity trading and rooftop solar power, continue to perfect institutions, remove obstacles, and promote the implementation of electricity and renewable energy projects.
