President attends high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly

President Luong Cuong attended the high-level meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, delivered important speeches at the High-level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Special Global High-Level Event on Climate Action.

On the morning of September 22 (local time), at the UN headquarters in New York (USA), a solemn ceremony was held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. President Luong Cuong led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the ceremony.

Attending the ceremony were 103 heads of state, 46 Prime Ministers , and senior representatives of UN member states and leaders of international and regional organizations.

Previously, on the evening of September 21 local time (morning of September 22 Vietnam time), President Luong Cuong and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in New York City (USA) to attend the High-Level General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the US.

On the morning of September 22, local time, at the UN headquarters in New York City (USA), President Luong Cuong attended a high-level meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN.

This is President Luong Cuong's first trip to attend a multilateral foreign activity at the largest global forum, of primary importance in the context of the UN celebrating its 80th anniversary; at the same time, the trip also marks the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US and the 30th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the two countries.

On the morning of September 22 (local time), the President will attend a high-level meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, deliver important speeches at the High-Level General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and the Special Global High-Level Event on Climate Action. At the same time, the President will have bilateral meetings and contacts with leaders of international organizations and countries attending the high-level week of the UN General Assembly.

During the visit, the President will meet with US leaders, businesses, financial institutions, long-time partners and friends, leading scholars, attend a meeting between Vietnamese and US veterans, meet with officials and staff of Vietnamese representative agencies and prominent representatives of the Vietnamese community; as well as preside over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in New York...

Create all favorable conditions for US businesses to invest in Vietnam

Earlier on the morning of September 21 local time, within the framework of bilateral activities in Seattle, Washington state, President Luong Cuong received Chairman and CEO of Costco Group Ron Vachris. Costco is one of the largest retail groups in the US, operating more than 870 supermarkets worldwide. Mr. Ron Vachris expressed his desire to continue to cooperate closely with key suppliers of Vietnam to bring products suitable to the market, thereby maintaining long-term cooperation with Vietnamese partners. It is estimated that the import value of Vietnamese goods in Costco's supply chain can reach over 1 billion USD per year with key items such as textiles, footwear, wooden furniture, seafood, cashew nuts and coffee...

President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the business results as well as the need to increase the purchase of Vietnam's export goods to put into Costco's distribution system. The President emphasized that Costco's initiative in building a strategic cooperation framework to develop production capacity and supply chain is an orientation in line with Vietnam's strategic priority in participating more deeply in the global value chain, especially for industries with strengths such as agricultural products, seafood, textiles, footwear and light industry.

The President emphasized that with a population of nearly 100 million and a constantly expanding consumer demand, Vietnam will be a destination with great potential; at the same time, he welcomed Costco's proposal for an official presence and long-term investment in Vietnam. Stating that Vietnam firmly adheres to the policy of deep integration, building an open, transparent and sustainable economy , the President said that Vietnam is committed to accompanying and creating favorable conditions for Costco in implementing investment forms.

On the same morning, in Seattle, President Luong Cuong received a delegation of Oregon lawmakers led by Congressman Nguyen Ba Loc, Chairman of the Oregon House Economic Development Committee.

The President emphasized that Oregon is one of Vietnam's important partners in promoting cooperation to successfully achieve high and sustainable economic growth. The President affirmed that Vietnam welcomes and is ready to create all favorable conditions for Oregon businesses and training institutions to expand cooperation, investment, research and development in Vietnam; asked Congressman Nguyen Ba Loc and other members of the delegation to continue supporting the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship, strengthening economic-trade, science-technology and innovation cooperation; supporting Vietnam in developing the green economy, semiconductor industry, training high-quality human resources, meeting the requirements of sustainable development and integrating into the global supply chain; supporting and promoting the US to soon recognize Vietnam's market economy status and remove Vietnam from the list of countries with restricted high-tech exports.

On the morning of September 21 local time (night of September 21 Hanoi time), in Seattle, President Luong Cuong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation attended the aircraft handover ceremony between Boeing Corporation and Vietjet Air at Boeing's factory in Seattle. This is the first Boeing 737-8 aircraft in Vietjet's order of 200 aircraft worth 25 billion USD with Boeing.
