President Luong Cuong hosts state reception for Sri Lankan President

On the evening of May 5, at the International Convention Center, Hanoi, President Luong Cuong hosted a solemn reception for President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, who is on a State visit to Vietnam.

Welcoming President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and the Sri Lankan delegation on a State visit to Vietnam, bringing to Vietnam the warm sentiments and unique cultural features of the "pearl on the shores of the Indian Ocean", President Luong Cuong pointed out that the visit is of great significance, marking the 55-year journey of continuous development of bilateral relations and at the same time opening a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.

The President emphasized that although Vietnam and Sri Lanka are geographically far apart, they have had a long-standing deep cultural and religious connection. In particular, President Ho Chi Minh , the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, visited Sri Lanka three times. His statue was placed in the capital Colombo and the book of poems "Prison Diary" by President Ho Chi Minh was translated into Sinhala by the Sri Lankan Minister of Culture and Ethnic Affairs.

The President also highlighted the continuous development in the relationship between the two countries over the past 55 years; notably, political trust has been strengthened; cultural, religious and tourism cooperation is a bright spot; economic, trade and investment cooperation has flourished and promises many potentials and opportunities for the business communities of the two countries to exploit in the coming time.

Affirming that Vietnam and Sri Lanka share many similarities in terms of geostrategic and geoeconomic positions, as well as vision, goals and interests, the President believes that, on the basis of a solid and trustworthy relationship and the results achieved during President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka's visit this time, the two countries will continue to stand side by side, realize the set goals, bring the Vietnam - Sri Lanka relationship to new heights, bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries as well as actively contribute to building a stable, peaceful, cooperative and developed Asia - Pacific and Indian Ocean region.

In his response, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka once again expressed his gratitude to President Luong Cuong, the Government and people of Vietnam for the warm welcome given to the President personally and the Sri Lankan delegation.

Pointing out that the relationship between the two countries has been built and maintained by many generations of leaders, based on the foundation of trust, mutual respect, common values, cultural traditions and understanding between the two peoples, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka affirmed that the two countries are not only connected by political goodwill but also by deep spiritual and cultural ties, nurtured by the common values ​​of Buddhism.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka emphasized that the heroic struggle for independence and national reunification of the Vietnamese people, under the leadership and strategic vision of the great President Ho Chi Minh, remains deeply imprinted in the memories of the Sri Lankan people, and affirmed that his legacy continues to inspire many generations around the world.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that having received immense trust from all walks of life and communities of Sri Lanka, his Government is striving to lead the country on the path of comprehensive economic, social and political reforms and in this vision of the future, international friendship and partnership play a more important role than ever before.

In that context, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka believes that the exchanges with Vietnamese leaders during this visit will open up prospects for deeper cooperation - from enhancing connectivity to promoting trade, jointly exploring new cooperation opportunities in many fields, thereby the close cooperation between the two countries in the coming years will continue to be consolidated and enhanced.

Assessing that Vietnam has gradually become a dynamic economic powerhouse and an increasingly growing manufacturing hub in the region, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that Vietnam's remarkable progress is an inspiring example for many developing countries, and believes that the steadfast friendship and sustainable partnership between the two countries will bring a bright future for both Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
