On the morning of May 5 (local time), continuing the program of attending the coronation ceremony of King Charles III of England in the United Kingdom,President Vo Van Thuong and the Vietnamese delegation laid flowers at the Uncle Ho Memorial Sign at the New Zealand House building on Hay Market Street in London.
At the flower offering ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong and members of the delegation respectfully offered flowers to commemorate the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, the national liberation hero, and world cultural celebrity.
President Vo Van Thuong and the delegates expressed their respect and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, reviewing his journey to find a way to save the country, including the years he lived and worked in England. During his journey to find a way to save the country, although his time in England was not long, it contributed to shaping his political ideology so that he could find a way to liberate the nation and the country.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long, President Ho Chi Minh's time living and working in the UK laid the foundation for the friendly relationship between Vietnam and the UK. The historical site at New Zealand House and several other places in London - where President Ho's footprints are preserved - is of great significance in introducing to British and international friends the history and cause of national liberation of Vietnam; at the same time helping to promote the friendship between the two countries and the two peoples of Vietnam and the UK. President Ho Chi Minh's patriotism in his journey to find a way to save the country is a great example for generations of Vietnamese students studying in the UK as well as young generations of Vietnamese people in the UK to follow.
The 19-storey New Zealand House on Hay Market Street is located in the heart of central London, built on the site of the Carlton Hotel, a luxury hotel that opened from 1899-1940, where President Ho Chi Minh worked as a kitchen assistant during his time in London. The front of the building has a blue peace plaque, placed by the Vietnam - UK Friendship Association in the 1990s, with the inscription "In 1913, Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) - the founder of Vietnam - worked at the Carlton Hotel, the building that once stood on this site". Many other places in London also bear the footprints of President Ho Chi Minh during his years in the UK, including the Draton Court Hotel; Soho Square - where Uncle Ho did the hard work of shoveling snow and the Marx Library Museum - the former location of the 20th Century Printing House, where the works of Marx and Engels were printed, which President Ho Chi Minh first encountered. These places are indispensable and proud destinations for all Vietnamese tourists on their journey to explore the UK. |
