On the morning of May 23, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong had a friendly meeting with outstanding members of the Vietnam Sports Delegation (VSD) who had just successfully competed at the 32nd SEA Games.
Also attending were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pham Thanh Ha and 130 outstanding members of the Vietnamese sports delegation.

At the meeting, Director General of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training - Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation Dang Ha Viet reported to the leaders about participating and competing at the 32nd SEA Games. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation with 702 athletes competed in 30/36 sports and received the target of being in the top of the region.

In a SEA Games with extremely fierce competition, many difficulties and challenges when some strong sports or events were eliminated, the Vietnamese sports delegation still won 359 medals of all kinds, including 136 gold medals and for the first time won first place overall at a Games held abroad.
Many sports have also made history such as the women's football team winning the SEA Games for the fourth consecutive time; golf and basketball winning gold medals for the first time while many Olympic and Asian Games sports topped the region such as wrestling (13 gold medals), gymnastics (4 gold medals), judo (8 gold medals), karate (6 gold medals)...

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, President Vo Van Thuong said he was very happy, proud and moved to meet and talk with the outstanding members of the Vietnam Sports Delegation.
The President highly appreciated the achievements of the delegation and said that this was an emotional SEA Games in which Vietnamese sports demonstrated a spirit of solidarity, nobility and purity, which was highly appreciated by international friends.
The President and Deputy Prime Minister presented flowers to outstanding officials, coaches and athletes.
The President praised the efforts of the female athletes who won most of the gold medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation. The President said that the moment when the athletes salute the flag, sing the national anthem, and hear the name of the Fatherland and their names being called when receiving the medals will certainly be sacred and proud moments, creating more motivation for the athletes to strive, train, and compete to achieve the highest results.
President and Deputy Prime Minister present gifts to athletes
The President affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to sports and reminded the sports industry to always promote the achievements to aim for higher arenas such as the Asian Games and Olympics with a vision and long-term strategic investment, doing well in youth training to nurture the next generation of athletes.
The delegation of coaches and athletes took souvenir photos with the President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At the meeting, the President awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh (athletics) and 37 Third Class Labor Medals to outstanding members of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games.
