South Korean National Assembly Speaker pays official visit to Vietnam

On November 20, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Shik and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Speaker of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man.

On November 20, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Shik and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Speaker of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man . Joining the delegation accompanying the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and his wife were National Assembly members: Mun Jinseog, Hwang Unha, Yang Bunam, Mun Geumju, Lee Kiheon, Jung Eulho; and Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Youngsam.

Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Woo Won Shik was born on September 18, 1957 in Seoul, South Korea. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea in 1997 and a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea in 2009.

In 1988, he served as Deputy Head of the Civil Rights Committee of the Democratic People's Party of Korea. He held the following positions: Secretary General of the Peaceful Democratic Unification Research Association from 1989 to 1992; Executive Committee Member of the People's Alliance for Environmental Justice from 2000 to 2004; and Member of the 17th, 19th, and 20th National Assembly from 2004 to 2020. From October 2018 to May 2020, he served as Chairman of the Special Committee on Energy Conversion Industry Development and Climate Change Response, Democratic Party of Korea.

He was a member of the 21st National Assembly from May 2020 to May 2024; served as a member of the Financial Planning Committee of the 21st National Assembly in July 2020 and served as Chairman of the Special Committee for National Balanced Development of the Democratic Party in December 2020.

He held the positions of: Member of the Labor and Environment Committee, 21st National Assembly from July 2022 to May 2024; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Social Committee, Democratic Party of Korea from January 2023 to May 2024 and a member of the 22nd National Assembly from May 2024 to June 2024. From June 2024 to present, he has held the position of Speaker of the 22nd National Assembly of Korea.
