On the afternoon of June 2, comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee came to congratulate and present Certificates of Merit to Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital for their outstanding and extraordinary achievements in fetal cardiac intervention for a Singaporean pregnant woman, contributing to marking a new turning point in fetal medicine in Vietnam.
Expressing his emotion and pride at the outstanding achievements of the two hospitals, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee congratulated, acknowledged, praised and highly appreciated the efforts, intelligence, breakthroughs, and technical expertise development of the leaders, doctors, technicians, nurses, and staff of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital who successfully performed human fetal heart intervention.
“This is a very proud and noteworthy medical achievement of the Vietnamese medical sector in general and the Ho Chi Minh City medical sector in particular on the regional and world medical map,” emphasized comrade Nguyen Van Duoc.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City is proud to have a very special resource, which is a rich, abundant and intelligent human resource that not every locality has. Ho Chi Minh City develops and strives to develop from this very special resource. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City leaders always pay attention, support and create all conditions for the Ho Chi Minh City health sector to develop in depth and with high quality.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee expressed his trust and confidence in the staff and team of doctors, technicians, nurses and workers in the Ho Chi Minh City health sector in general, and the two hospitals in particular, to continue to promote the tradition of the medical sector, master advanced technology and the aspiration to conquer new heights in the medical sector, and to practice good medical ethics and the good qualities of Vietnamese physicians in taking care of people's health.
Previously, on May 28, a team of highly qualified and experienced doctors, nurses and technicians from Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital (HCMC) worked closely together to successfully perform the 9th fetal heart intervention. Notably, the pregnant woman this time was a Singaporean who was only 25 weeks pregnant, the fetus weighed less than 600g but had a rare congenital malformation, and was referred to Vietnam for intervention by Singaporean medical experts.
Fetal cardiac intervention is a new and complex technique that not only requires extensive expertise and sophisticated techniques, but also places strict demands on multidisciplinary coordination, professional ethics and courage in making life-or-death decisions for two lives: mother and child. Currently, this technique has only been successfully performed in a few countries in the world with specialized and developed healthcare systems. Notably, this case is a citizen from Singapore, a country with a developed medical system in the region.
The fact that Vietnamese doctors have approached, mastered and successfully applied this technique is a clear demonstration of the increasingly strong endogenous capacity of the country's medicine. This is not only a technical and professional medical achievement but also a success that touches profound human values, when the fragile buds of life on the border of survival have been held by the hands, minds, passion and wisdom of doctors like gentle mothers.
The successful implementation of fetal cardiac intervention opens up many prospects for the development of high technology and specialized techniques in medical examination and treatment, creating trust, image and international prestige for the country's healthcare sector.
“This achievement not only brings hope to thousands of pregnant women and their families, but also opens up a new direction in diagnosing and treating complex diseases right from the fetal period - an important step forward for the Vietnamese health sector to deeply integrate with world medicine,” Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed in a letter of commendation to the staff, doctors, medical staff and the leadership of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital on May 30.
Recognizing and praising the collectives that have made outstanding and extraordinary achievements in fetal cardiac intervention for Singaporean pregnant women, contributing to marking a new turning point in fetal medicine in Vietnam, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to award Certificates of Merit to Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital.
