Association of War Veterans in districts and cities actively mobilizes and contributes funds to support war veterans in difficult circumstances to build houses. |
In just a few months, the family of veteran Nguyen Quang Long (Da K'nang commune, Dam Rong district) will be able to live in a new, spacious house, replacing the dilapidated wooden house where he has lived for many years. It is known that in mid-March, the Association of Veterans of Dam Rong district coordinated with the Association of Veterans of Da K'nang commune to organize a groundbreaking ceremony to build a "Comradely Love" house for Mr. Long's family. According to Mr. Vu Xuan Que - Chairman of the Association of Veterans of the district, in the face of the difficult circumstances of veteran Nguyen Quang Long's family, the Association proposed to support 60 million VND from the poverty alleviation and temporary housing support fund of the Provincial Association of Veterans. The new house has an area of nearly 70 m² with a total cost of more than 300 million VND. Looking at the house gradually taking shape, Mr. Long could not hide his emotions: "Having a new house, I am really happy. This is a great source of encouragement to help my family overcome difficulties and stabilize our lives."
Over the past 5 years, the Association of War Veterans in Dam Rong district has mobilized the construction of 8 houses for members in difficult circumstances with a total cost of nearly 490 million VND. In 2024 alone, from the poverty alleviation and temporary housing support fund of the Provincial Association of War Veterans, the Association built 2 houses, helping members have stable housing.
Not only in Dam Rong, the Joint Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses has also been strongly implemented in many other localities, including Bao Lam district. Mr. Tran The Vinh - Chairman of the District Association of War Veterans said: “In 2024, the District Association of War Veterans coordinated to build 5 houses for members, with a total cost of 290 million VND. Of which, 2 houses were supported by the poverty reduction and temporary house elimination support fund of the Provincial Association of War Veterans, each worth 70 million VND; the remaining 3 houses were mobilized by the District Association of War Veterans to contribute from businesses, each worth 50 million VND. By 2025, the district will have only one member household with housing difficulties and the Association's goal is to strive to eliminate all of them this year”. With the spirit of "Comradeship", over the past many years, the Association of War Veterans in districts and cities across the province has united and made efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for members in difficult circumstances. By mobilizing all resources, the Association not only provides housing support but also motivates members to stabilize their lives. In particular, the poverty alleviation and temporary housing support fund launched by the provincial Veterans Association has become a solid foundation, helping hundreds of members escape poverty and settle down in solid, spacious houses.
According to the Provincial Association of War Veterans, the poverty alleviation and temporary housing support fund was launched in 2016, built on the voluntary spirit of war veteran members in the province, with a contribution of 20,000 VND/year. In addition, the fund also received support from local authorities, organizations, businesses and philanthropists. Thanks to that, from 2018 to 2024, the Provincial Association of War Veterans supported the construction of 89 new houses with a total value of more than 4.4 billion VND. In 2024 alone, the Association helped build 5 "Comradely Love" houses with a budget of 360 million VND, helping war veterans in difficult circumstances have a stable place to live and feel secure in working and producing.
According to Mr. Vu Cong Tien - Chairman of the Provincial Association of War Veterans: "From the beginning of the year, the Association has directed all levels of the Association across the province to focus on reviewing and counting members facing housing difficulties, from which to develop a specific support plan. The goal is to completely eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses of War Veterans by the end of 2025, contributing to improving the quality of life of War Veterans."
Through review, in 2025, the whole province still has about 15 temporary houses of war veterans that need support. Identifying this as one of the key tasks, the provincial War Veterans Association, in addition to effectively promoting the Association's fund and the fund to support poverty reduction and temporary housing elimination, also actively mobilizes maximum social mobilization resources. At the same time, the Association also mobilizes members with better economic conditions to contribute, spreading the spirit of mutual love and camaraderie.
In addition to housing support, the provincial Veterans Association also focuses on promoting the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement among its members, encouraging veterans to unite and help each other develop the economy, aiming at sustainable poverty reduction. The Association has proactively coordinated to organize training courses on agriculture, applying science and technology to production; encouraged members to boldly transform the structure of crops and livestock with high economic value; promoted the collective economic model, linked production according to the value chain and developed high-tech agriculture. In particular, to create conditions for members to have more resources for economic development, the provincial Veterans Association has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to effectively implement the loan trust program. Thanks to access to preferential capital and proper use, many members have expanded production, increased income, and escaped poverty sustainably.
Thanks to the care and support of the Provincial Veterans Association, along with the spirit of solidarity and efforts of each member, solid houses have gradually replaced temporary houses, the economic life of veterans has become increasingly stable, contributing to the development of the local economy and society.
