On the morning of April 14, Tuoi Tre newspaper coordinated with Nguyen Du Secondary School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City; Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company to organize the program "Preventing school violence - Building a safe and friendly learning environment".
Lack of sharing from parents
Why do school violence cases often occur among secondary school students? Before answering this question, Dr. To Nhi A, lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law and an expert in applied psychology, invited the students to speak first.

And surprisingly, the students listed a series of causes of school violence such as being stared at with strange eyes, being hated and beaten for being good at studying, not being good at studying but trying to teach others and getting beaten, conflicts on social networks, being stopped from playing with friends so hitting friends...
Dr. To Nhi A said that there were many cases of students fighting over things that had nothing to do with them. For example, one student badmouthed another student's idol singer and was beaten.
"Many school violence incidents do not originate from major events. Students beat up their friends for any reason. Another cause of school violence is puberty.
"Middle school students are in puberty, and it is often difficult for them to stay calm. Sometimes, simple reasons can cause agitation and they can start fighting," said Dr. To Nhi A.

At this point, Dr. To Nhi A asked the question: "How many of you feel stressed because of having to endure grievances in your family?" - More than half of the students present in the school yard raised their hands.
When children feel frustrated, angry, and cannot share their feelings with their parents; cannot find peace in the family, they will bring that frustration to school. And just one word or small action from you can make them feel angry. This is the "kindling" that ignites the long-suppressed frustration, causing students to fight each other.
Dr. To Nhi A gave advice to students: "Parents are the ones who love their children the most. I believe so and I advise you to share with your parents to relieve your worries. You need to take care of your body, eat and sleep well, play sports, actively participate in extracurricular activities, etc. to have peace of mind."
My child is very good at home!

"Some parents say that their children are very well-behaved at home, and their Facebook accounts are also very healthy, just studying and traveling with their families. But now many students have two or more accounts on Facebook. They have used fake accounts to insult, slander, and criticize others on social networks" - said expert Dao Le Tam An - PhD student in psychology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
At the exchange, many students raised their hands to confirm that they used multiple social networks at the same time such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, etc. and had 2 or more accounts on one social network.

Expert Dao Le Tam An analyzed: "The 6 forms of online bullying today are impersonation, stalking, threatening, spreading and cheating, defamation, and boycotting. Online bullying is different from traditional school violence in that: you don't know who is bullying you.
Sometimes, it's just a normal problem in life, you guys rush into an argument with each other. Then you insult, put down, and curse each other. Arguing without knowing who wins or loses, you guys make an appointment to meet directly outside and fight."
Expert Dao Le Tam An gives advice to students: "For messages that insult you, press on them and report them as harassing or hateful messages.
If you keep getting messages from different people, you need to tell your parents and turn off your screen and stop reading. If you continue to read those messages, it will negatively affect your emotions."
Join hands to push back school violence

Speaking at the exchange, journalist Nguyen Khac Cuong, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, emphasized:
"Today I am very happy to be here, where there are many students - close readers of the Red Scarf publication of Tuoi Tre newspaper.
As everyone knows, school is where students develop their qualities and abilities, where students come to school with a comfortable, happy, confident attitude, loving their teachers and friends.
However, it is very possible that somewhere there is a student who is filled with fear and anxiety after receiving a text message: "You will know what I can do during recess", "Who gave you permission to date the person I like?",...
There are children who silently endure their fear alone, unable to share it with anyone.
Understanding that situation, Tuoi Tre newspaper has cooperated with Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company to compile the book series "Skills to respond to school violence".
The publication of the book series along with the implementation of today's program at Nguyen Du Secondary School is an effort of Tuoi Tre newspaper and a team of experts in joining hands to build a safe and friendly learning environment.
Both victims and perpetrators are students who need to be educated in character and loved. Not only students who are bullied but also students who bully others need attention and psychological counseling."

School violence is no longer an isolated phenomenon, but has become a serious social problem. The statistics and heartbreaking incidents reported in the media are just the tip of the iceberg. Behind that are the silent but persistent injuries that students - both victims and perpetrators - must carry for the rest of their lives.
Therefore, more than ever, equipping students - as well as teachers and parents - with the skills to recognize, prevent and handle school violence in a correct, humane and effective manner is extremely urgent.
Stemming from that spirit, Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company has collaborated with Tuoi Tre newspaper to compile two handbooks "Skills to deal with school violence" for primary and secondary school students, with the aim of raising awareness and providing effective solutions to deal with school violence.
This is the result of a research process, with situations being real stories provided by the Tuoi Tre newspaper's team of reporters, with the participation of psychologists, educators and a team of experienced authors.
The book series not only provides knowledge, but also presents real-life situations, helping students identify forms of violence and the consequences that "violence" causes. More importantly, through this book series, we hope that students can be equipped with the skills to protect themselves and respond when faced with violent situations.
We believe that the book series is not only a learning material, but also a companion for parents - helping parents better understand their children's world and the challenges they may face."
