Vietnam women's futsal team tops group but faces difficulties in quarterfinals

On the afternoon of May 11, the Vietnamese women's futsal team and Iran drew 0-0 in the final match of Group B of the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship.

Before this match, both the Vietnamese and Iranian women's futsal teams had already secured their tickets to the next round. This encounter still had quite an important meaning: determining the top team in Group B.

After the first two matches, the Vietnamese and Iranian futsal teams have 6 points each, sharing the top two positions. However, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team is temporarily ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference.

Therefore, in this direct confrontation, the Vietnamese futsal team only needs to draw with Iran to win the top spot. On the contrary, Iran has only one way to win.

But it is worth mentioning that if any team wins the top spot in the group, the opponent in the quarter-finals will be more difficult (Japan or Thailand) than the second place (Taiwan).

This seemed to make the two teams play rather cautiously, especially the Iranian women's futsal team - the stronger team. In the ball, the Iranian women's futsal team was not too determined.

Partly because they also wanted to keep their place for the quarter-finals. Therefore, the match between the two teams did not satisfy the fans and ended in a draw.

Holding Iran to a draw, the Vietnamese women's futsal team made a memorable achievement. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team was the first team to break the 12-match winning streak of the Iranian women's futsal team at the Asian tournament.

Drawing with Iran, the Vietnamese women's futsal team won a ticket to the quarterfinals as the top team of Group B. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team will face either Japan or Thailand in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Iran's opponent is Taiwan. Tonight, Japan and Thailand will face each other in the match to decide the top spot in Group C. At that time, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will determine its opponent.
