Recently, media outlet Dispatch released its findings after investigating BTS member Jungkook's plagiarism allegations for his solo single "Seven." This is the initial result given by producer Yang Joon Young. He is also the producer of Fin.KL's song "Time of Mask," which is said to be the original work that Jungkook "plagiarized."

What do experts say about Jungkook (BTS) plagiarism accusations?

Earlier this week, Yang Joon Young's plagiarism allegations were made public through multiple media outlets, attracting widespread public attention. Yang Joon Young asserted that although the two songs use different keys, they still use the same note/scale sequence in the 4-bar section.

According to Yang Joon Young, the "problematic" part of "Seven", is between 00:55 and 01:03, with lyrics starting with "You love when I jump right in. All of me I'm offering...". In "Time of Mask", the alleged similar part is between 00:52 and 01:10.

To verify Yang Joon Young's accusation, Dispatch tested to find similarities. However, Dispatch found that because "Seven" and "Time of Mask" use different scales, it was difficult to convert the two songs into a completely matching form. However, Dispatch still proceeded to convert the two songs.

Ultimately, Dispatch concluded that no element of the two songs completely overlapped, whether it was in regards to key, chord progression, tempo, or note arrangement.

“To consider plagiarism, at least two similar components must be found, such as the same melody and chord progression. In this case, no such components were found,” an expert told Dispatch .

Previously, BTS' management company BIGHIT MUSIC stated, "We affirm that the allegations of copyright infringement regarding Jungkook's 'Seven' are not true." They added, "'Seven' is a song made through the collaboration of five foreign composers and the song is a new creation, completely unrelated to the song in the domestic album from 23 years ago as some have claimed. These are one-sided claims that do not meet any criteria such as similarity and other principles in determining plagiarism."
