On the afternoon of May 1, at Nha Trang Port (Khanh Hoa province), the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held a ceremony to welcome the Russian scientific research ship named "Academician Oparin" to start a joint survey in 2025 under the "Cooperation roadmap in marine research for the period 2018-2025" between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
This is the kick-off activity for the 9th joint marine survey between the two Academies, lasting from May 1-25 in Vietnam's waters.
The survey used the ship “Academician Oparin,” one of the specialized research vessels on biochemistry and biodiversity of the Russian Federation, with the participation of 30 Russian and Vietnamese scientists on board.

Over the course of nearly a month, the survey team will conduct field sampling in coastal and deep sea areas in the southern waters of Vietnam, with agreed stations and research points.
This survey aims to update and supplement data on biodiversity, environmental quality and marine biological resources, and collect marine and environmental samples for biochemical and microbiological research and to evaluate the potential of marine biological compounds.
Research teams will focus on analyzing factors related to marine pollution, the presence and accumulation of microplastics, persistent organic compounds, and developing remote sensing data for environmental and aquaculture monitoring.
The results of the survey will be announced at a scientific conference scheduled to be held on May 27 at the Institute of Oceanography under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Nha Trang city.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Viet Ha, Director of the Institute of Oceanography (Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa ), said that since 2005, the Institute of Oceanography has had the honor of welcoming the ship "Academician Oparin" to Nha Trang port five times, starting the survey trips between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences. This is also the fifth time the Institute of Oceanography has been entrusted by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to preside over this important marine survey mission.
The Institute of Oceanography is well aware that this is an important international cooperation task, contributing to improving the capacity and experience of marine science research of the Institute of Oceanography in particular and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in general.
In particular, the leaders of the Institute of Oceanography in recent years have highly appreciated the results and significance of these joint surveys.

The 9th survey trip once again tightened joint research activities between Vietnamese and Russian scientists and scientists from the two Academies.
This survey trip took place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (1950-2025), a clear demonstration of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in science and technology, especially in marine research and protection of natural resources between the two countries.
The marine research vessel "Academician Oparin" is 75.5m long, with a tonnage of over 2,440 tons, and is equipped with many means and devices to operate at sea for long periods and collect samples in deep sea areas. The ship has laboratories that can directly process samples during research at sea./.
