Next season, in addition to the V-League and National Cup, Thanh Hoa team will also have to participate in the Southeast Asian Club Championship. This is the first time this tournament has been held.

Faced with a rather dense match schedule, plus not having a very strong squad, Thanh Hoa Football Club asked the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for permission not to participate in AFC Champions League 2.
Initially, Vietnamese football had 2 representatives participating in the above tournament, including the new V-League champion Nam Dinh and the National Cup champion Thanh Hoa. With Thanh Hoa withdrawing, Vietnamese football has only one representative in the AFC Champions League for 2 years now, which is Nam Dinh.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) proposed to the AFC to allow another representative to replace Thanh Hoa to participate in the Asian Cup, but the AFC refused, because the time was too close. The draw for the AFC Champions League 2 group stage is scheduled to take place this coming August, while the group stage will begin in September.
Last season was a successful season for Thanh Hoa Football Club, coach Popov's team defended the National Cup championship title, after a dramatic final match with Hanoi FC at Thanh Hoa Stadium.
