Hai Phong FC began their journey in the 2023/2024 Asian Cup with a trip to Hong Kong (China) to face Rangers FC. The Vietnamese representative quickly took control of the game. The red-shirted players received support from more than 1,000 Vietnamese fans in the stands.

However, Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem's players did not create many truly dangerous opportunities to convert into goals. Rangers FC defenders played fiercely with many strong tackles. This caused difficulties for many technical players such as Hoang Nam, Hai Huy or Viet Hung.
