Dong Nai A teacher in Bien Hoa City slapped a two-year-old boy 31 times on the cheek because he refused to eat lunch.
On the afternoon of May 17, after picking up her child from Tuoi Ngoc Kindergarten in Bien Hoa City, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, 33 years old, discovered many bruises on her child’s cheeks and forehead, including fingerprints. Ms. Thao immediately reported the matter to the school’s board of directors.
Through camera footage, the school determined that Ms. Thao's 2-year-old son was repeatedly hit on the cheek by teacher Nguyen Thi Bich Huong during lunchtime at 10:10 a.m. the same day.
Working with the authorities, Ms. Huong admitted to hitting the boy 31 times on the left cheek because he refused to eat. In addition to this child, she also hit many other children.
On the morning of May 24, Tuoi Ngoc Kindergarten decided to suspend Ms. Huong from teaching for 60 days for disciplinary consideration. According to Ms. Vu Thi Ngoc Yen, the principal, the 23-year-old female teacher graduated from a junior college of preschool education.
"Ms. Huong is normally very responsible and loves children, but I don't understand why she acted so reprehensible that day," said Ms. Yen, adding that she went with the teacher to the child's house to apologize and support the child's treatment at the hospital.
