What opportunities are there for the Accounting industry in the 4.0 revolution?

To perform the function of providing information in the context of high-tech and digital applications, accounting will have to fundamentally and comprehensively change from the techniques of processing operations to accounting methods. The 4.0 Industrial Revolution promises to open up many opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of the accounting profession. However, besides the opportunities, accounting also faces a series of challenges, in which, it can be said that the shortage of high-quality accounting labor is a big problem.

Assessing the current state of accounting human resources in Vietnam, many opinions say that the quality of accounting human resources, especially the ability to apply information technology, is a major barrier for accountants to access digital technology . Moreover, although accounting training has received attention, it has not really met practical requirements, especially knowledge of high technology, information security and artificial intelligence.

To grasp the opportunities brought by the 4.0 industrial revolution, students pursuing an accounting career today need to be equipped with knowledge of digital technology, database management and many new skills. Saigon International University (SIU) has built and officially trained the Accounting major with majors: Accounting - Auditing, Business Accounting, providing a foundation of knowledge and specialized skills, to help students develop themselves and easily adapt in the 4.0 era.

In addition to focusing on training professional knowledge, skills in applying science and technology and proficient use of specialized accounting software, SIU also trains students in the ability to adapt to the business environment and perform accounting work effectively in business units and public service units in the economy .

In order for students to have practical experiences during their studies, the school plans to invite leading experts and businesses to exchange practical experiences; organize specialized events and seminars, and develop specialized clubs, organize academic competitions and research to help students improve their knowledge, exploit their potential and develop necessary professional skills. SIU representative said that with the accumulated knowledge and skills, after graduation, students can flexibly work in many different positions such as: accounting auditor, cost control specialist, financial analyst, tax consultant, risk analyst, bank specialist,... at multinational companies, economic groups, government agencies, banks and financial institutions.

SIU is the first and only university in Vietnam and one of the few in Asia to achieve international accreditation for the Business major from IACBE - USA. The school also achieved school-level accreditation and most recently achieved accreditation for two majors: English Language and Computer Science according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In 2021, SIU will enroll full-time undergraduate students with 20 training majors, including: International Economic Law, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Networks and Communications, Information Security, Management Information Systems, Digital Media Design, Business Administration, International Trade, Foreign Economics, Tourism Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Marketing, E-Commerce, English for Teaching, Business English, Accounting and Auditing, Corporate Accounting, Logistics & Supply Chain Management and Psychology. The school applies 4 admission methods: considering 12th grade transcripts, considering 5-semester transcripts (2 semesters of grade 10, 2 semesters of grade 11 and semester I of grade 12), considering high school exam results and considering the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam.
