Many universities in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to use academic transcripts in their 2026 admissions process.

Although the Ministry of Education and Training is currently seeking opinions on abolishing university admissions based on academic transcripts, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City still plan to use academic transcript scores as an important criterion in the 2026 admissions process.

Instead of independent selection, academic transcripts are integrated into comprehensive admission methods, combined with high school graduation exam scores, aptitude test scores, foreign language certificates, or interviews to comprehensively assess candidates' abilities.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) continues to offer admissions through six methods: High school graduation exam scores; Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test scores; V-SAT exam results; admission based on the average score of three subjects in grade 12; admission based on the average score for the entire year of grade 12; and a new method in 2026 combining high school graduation exam scores and academic transcript scores.

The University of Banking Ho Chi Minh City plans to use four admission methods: direct admission and priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; admission based on overall academic results and high school achievements; admission based on V-SAT 2026 exam scores; and admission based on high school graduation exam scores.

Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine plans to recruit students through three methods: considering high school graduation exam scores, direct admission, and other methods as stipulated by the university.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2025, admission based on academic transcripts will still be the most widely used method, accounting for 42.4% of the 17 methods, higher than admission based on high school graduation exam scores (39.1%). This shows that academic transcripts still play an important role in admissions, even though schools are gradually shifting towards assessing comprehensive competencies.
