Can disease risk be detected early by gene decoding?

The strategy for science and technology development of the Vietnamese healthcare sector from now until 2030 is related to the development of personalized medicine, including gene technology.

On September 26, Bac Ha International General Hospital cooperated with Revita Company, a pioneer in the field of disease treatment using gene decoding technology in Japan, to organize a medical seminar on "Genetic health and anti-aging".

Speaking at the program, Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training ( Ministry of Health ) said that the strategy for science and technology development of the Vietnamese health sector from now until 2030 is related to the development of personalized medicine, including gene technology.

Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang spoke at the event.

Mr. Quang affirmed that as a state management agency in the field of medical science and technology , the Department of Science, Technology and Training always encourages and creates the best conditions for focal cooperation units in Vietnam to coordinate and cooperate in implementing research and testing technology in Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang affirmed that the science and technology development strategy of the Vietnamese healthcare sector from now until 2030 is related to the development of personalized medicine, including gene technology.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, shared that among the cooperation projects between Vietnam and Japan, the healthcare sector can be considered one of the key important sectors. The Japanese Government has approved many ODA projects to support technology, train human resources, provide medical equipment, build hospitals in Vietnam, contributing to the further development of Vietnam's healthcare system.

Therefore, Mr. Ito Naoki also expects that Revita's introduction of gene decoding technology-based services in Vietnam will be a solution to the aging population problem of the two countries. "I hope that the relationship between the two countries will develop more deeply through the development of medical cooperation projects regardless of whether they are public or private," Mr. Ito Naoki expressed.

Medical experts say that instead of preventing diseases and risk factors early, most Vietnamese people only care about health issues and go to the doctor when they see clinical signs of disease. While proactive prevention and regular health check-ups for screening and early detection of diseases will help reduce the burden of disease, reduce the rate of out-of-pocket spending on health care, and increase treatment effectiveness.

Prof. Dr. Shigeo Horie, President of the Japan Anti-Aging Association, shared at the seminar issues on aging, genetic factors and environmental factors of multifactorial diseases, such as cancer, stroke, myocardial infarction, hypertension, diabetes, allergies, dementia, depression, etc.

Prof. Horie said diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke have a great impact on life, in which the main risk factor for these diseases is age. Most patients usually develop the disease after the age of 50 and the risk of disease increases rapidly with aging. Depending on the genetic code, people suffer from different diseases.

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in Vietnam. Research has shown that there are 32 genes related to this disease. According to Professor Horie, people at high risk of stroke, if they do not pay attention to changing their lifestyle, will face a risk of getting the disease 3 times higher than normal people. Therefore, gene decoding results will accurately determine biological lifespan, thereby predicting future diseases and reducing the risk of getting the disease.

The gene decoding technology owned by Revita Company, developed by Professor Shigeo Horie and his research team, decoded 3.2 billion genes to help people understand the unknowns about their condition, physical condition, nutrition and genetic factors.

This is the basis for predicting and planning health care in the right direction. In other words, the results of genome analysis can contribute to predicting some dangerous and common diseases in the present era.

Professor Shigeo Horie's method of combining gene character decoding and post-decoding therapy is said to meet the diverse needs of users, from infants, school-age children, adults, the elderly... This method is performed by taking DNA from saliva or blood samples, with results after about 2-3 months.

After the results of the genome decoding, customers and patients will receive in-depth consultation, helping them proactively build a health care plan for themselves through exercise, diet, and supplementation according to their body type to prevent cancer, reduce the risk of stroke and chronic diseases, etc., contributing to helping them have a healthy future, slow down the aging process, and prolong life.

Bac Ha International General Hospital is currently the only representative in Vietnam, along with Revita Company, to provide health consultation services using gene decoding. The hospital will provide free consultation and screening of patients before sending them to Juntendo Medical University Hospital, Japan for gene decoding and treatment.

Currently, most Vietnamese people tend to get sick or have clear clinical signs before going to the doctor for examination and treatment. For example, with cancer, a disease that causes more than 120,000 deaths each year according to Globocan 2020, more than 40% of deaths related to this disease can be prevented by reducing risk factors.
