A small device called Prolo Ring is gaining traction on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. It is billed as a “mouse ring” that allows users to control their computer’s cursor with just their fingers, without the need for a traditional mouse or trackpad.
Unlike other smart rings that focus on health measurement or notifications, Prolo Ring is designed for office work. The device's strength lies in its ability to help users control the mouse without taking their hands off the keyboard, thereby shortening operations and increasing work efficiency.
As described on the Kickstarter page, users wear the Prolo Ring on their index finger. Cursor movement is done by swiping the thumb along the edge of the ring, which acts as a miniature trackpad. A tap is equivalent to a left click, a hold is for a right click, and a double-click is for quick app launches.
The device has a battery life of about 8 hours, enough for a working day. Higher-end versions come with a charging case that can power the Prolo Ring for up to 30 days. This helps users not to worry about running out of battery when carrying it on long business trips or traveling .
Prolo Ring connects via Bluetooth, compatible with computers, smartphones and tablets. With its compact size, the product is aimed at people who often travel or work on laptops, helping to reduce the need to carry a bulky separate mouse.
The developer says users can customize touch mode and control gestures through the free application on the computer. The Pro version fully supports this feature, allowing personalization of operations according to usage habits.
The Prolo Ring comes in three colors: champagne gold, silver, and carbon black, and comes in a standard size. The starting price for early bird support is $99 , not including shipping. If the fundraising process goes well, shipping is expected to begin in December.
However, the development team also notes that crowdfunding projects always carry risks. The finished product and delivery may not go as planned, so backers should consider carefully before participating.
