In late October, the Central region suffered historic floods, severely affecting the lives of people in Hue City and Da Nang .
Faced with that situation, telecommunications carriers have urgently activated plans to prevent natural disasters, respond to information, mobilize human resources and means to ensure the safety of telecommunications infrastructure and maintain smooth communication for people in affected areas.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 2:00 a.m. on October 30, the flood level of Thu Bon River at Cau Lau station (Da Nang City) rose to 5.62m, 1.62m above the third alarm level and about 0.12m above the historical level in 1964. The Vietnam Disaster Monitoring System said that at 6:00 a.m. today, October 30, the flood level of Huong River at Kim Long ( Hue ) was 3.89m, 0.39m above the third alarm level; Bo River at Phu Oc was 4.48m, 0.02m below the third alarm level.

Faced with the complicated developments of the floods, on the morning of October 28, the working group of the Flood and Storm Prevention Command of the MobiFone Network Center in the Central Region quickly moved from Da Nang to Hue to organize rescue, inspection, coordination and direction of communication work in the area.
At the same time, the Center continues to closely coordinate with units to promptly handle points affected by signal loss, maintain network safety and quality to serve people in the area.
MobiFone continues to closely monitor the flood response in the Central region. In Hue and Da Nang, many MobiFone stores and branches have temporarily suspended operations due to deep flooding, but all staff have proactively placed assets, equipment, and documents high, ensuring the safety of people and property.
Our team of technicians, tellers and logistics staff remain on site, ready to coordinate rescue efforts and restore service when weather conditions permit.
Along with infrastructure protection and information security, MobiFone also closely coordinates with authorities to proactively send warning messages and provide guidance on storm prevention, flash flood and flood response skills to people in high-risk areas, contributing to raising public awareness and minimizing risks and damage caused by natural disasters.

During the flood season, the work of updating, reporting the situation and directing response is carried out continuously, connecting smoothly between the Corporation and local units via the online system to ensure the fastest response to any unusual situations.
Up to now, MobiFone staff at hotspots are still working day and night to maintain safe connections, ensuring stable communication to serve the government, rescue forces and people in the flood-hit areas, effectively serving the management and command of functional agencies.
Meanwhile, a representative of Viettel Telecom said that thanks to drastic response measures, Viettel's signal is being maintained stably to serve the government's flood prevention and control work and the communication needs of people in Hue and Da Nang.
Amidst the severe floods that caused deep inundation and isolation in many areas, Viettel units in Da Nang and Hue cities demonstrated the spirit of "the network is the order," proactively deploying rescue operations and ensuring uninterrupted telecommunications networks.
In addition to the on-site technical staff on duty 24/7, Viettel Telecom also mobilized personnel from neighboring provinces to support Hue and Da Nang in transporting fuel, equipment, and batteries to "save the signal."

"Currently, Viettel's signal is still stable in 40 communes and wards across Hue City. All Viettel BTS stations are operating stably, with technical staff on duty 24/7 and fuel reserves to ensure infrastructure operations during the time the flood has not receded," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Quang - Director of Viettel Hue City.
Directly present at the deeply flooded and isolated areas to direct the information rescue work at the scene. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Vu Tra My - Director of Viettel Da Nang said that he has closely coordinated with the City Military Command, borrowed boats to transport gasoline, generators and technical personnel to the isolated BTS stations.
Many technical staff have crossed the raging waters, directly fixed the problem, maintained the broadcasting station, and ensured communication for the isolated areas. Thanks to that, Viettel network in Da Nang was still maintained during the flood.

In addition, to support people to stay connected during natural disasters, all Viettel transaction stores, post offices and supermarkets in Hue and Da Nang cities are open to provide free battery/phone charging points for people. Viettel waves here also open roaming so that customers of other networks can use it to communicate when necessary.
According to VNPT representative, many places in Da Nang, Quang Ngai and Hue are still experiencing widespread power outages.
The optical fiber cable on the Ho Chi Minh trail suffered cable breaks at many points in the sections of Da Nang-Phuoc Son, Phuoc Son-Dak To and Hien-A Luoi.

VNPT said that it has basically fixed most of the problems and is continuing to fix them. The network also runs generators at mobile stations to ensure the best communication network. However, many areas are still deeply flooded and have landslides, so rescue work in some areas is still extremely difficult. VNPT representatives said they are urgently monitoring the flood situation closely, with the spirit of restoring the network as the flood recedes./.
