Police, Police of ASEAN countries compete on the football field in Hanoi

Eight teams from seven countries will compete in the 2025 ASEAN Police Football Open. The champion of the tournament will receive a prize of up to 30,000 USD.

With the consent of the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security , from July 7 to 15, the Department of Political Work ( Ministry of Public Security ) coordinated with the Vietnam Sports Department, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), main sponsors T&T Group and SHB to host the 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament.

On the afternoon of July 6, the organizing committee held a press conference to inform about the tournament.

The champion was awarded 780 million VND.

The tournament took place at Hang Day Stadium ( Hanoi ) and PVF Stadium (Hung Yen). This year's tournament brought together 8 teams from 7 countries, including 5 teams from ASEAN, 1 guest team from outside the region and 2 host teams.

According to the draw results, the teams were divided into two groups. Group A includes: Vietnam People's Public Security I, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia. Group B includes: Vietnam People's Public Security II, Australia, Singapore, East Timor.

The teams compete in a round robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals and the two semi-final winners meeting in the final to determine the champion.

The total prize value of the 2025 ASEAN Police Football Tournament is up to more than 70,000 USD. Of which, the champion of the tournament will receive a prize of 30,000 USD (about 780 million VND). The runner-up team will receive 15,000 USD, the third-place team will receive 10,000 USD...

Police officers and professional Vietnamese players compete together

Regarding the strength of the teams participating in the tournament, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head coach of the Vietnam People's Public Security Team II, said that the team includes soldiers working in the police force and a number of players who are signed to play in the police force.

The Vietnam People's Police Team I participated in the tournament with the core of young players from the Hanoi Police Club - who just won the National Cup championship in the 2024-2025 season. Notable names include: Ha Van Phuong, Hoang Van Toan, Giap Tuan Duong...

Meanwhile, the Vietnam People's Public Security Team II brought to the tournament the strongest force with many famous faces such as: Phi Minh Long, Nguyen Van Dung, Nguyen Huy Hung... Both home teams are determined in this tournament, promising to contribute impressive performances for the flag.

The Australian police said none of the players on the team that came to Vietnam were professional players. The Singapore police squad also consisted of full-time police officers and soldiers. Timor Leste alone has three players on the squad that are playing in the country’s national football championship.

The Lao Police team has an even force with many national players such as: Viengkham, Phomvongsa, Xayasone, Keodouangdeth, Keoviengphet... The combination of experienced veterans and young players helps the Lao team have a high level of inheritance, and is considered a formidable opponent in the tournament.

The Thai Police team brought to the tournament a squad of players from the Thai police force. Many of these players regularly play in Thailand’s lower leagues on weekends to maintain their form. Notably, former Thai national team player Tana Chanabut (born in 1984) – who won the 2007 SEA Games with the Thai team – was included in the squad, bringing valuable experience and being a moral support for the entire team.
