Ho Chi Minh City Police reorganize and reduce from 55 to 33 focal points

Kinhtedothi - This morning (March 1st), the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department held a ceremony to announce the Decision of the Minister of Public Security on the reorganization and streamlining of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's structure and apparatus to operate effectively and meet the requirements of the new era.


Attending the ceremony was Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

In implementing Project No. 25 dated January 11, 2025, of the Central Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security on "Continuing to reorganize and streamline the organizational structure of local police forces to operate effectively and efficiently, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new era," the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has basically completed the reorganization of its structure and personnel.

Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, emphasized the need to understand that "not organizing district-level police forces" does not reduce functions, tasks, or personnel; its essence is to reduce intermediate levels. The tasks of district-level police forces will be transferred to departmental-level units and commune-level police forces to continue their work. The Ho Chi Minh City Police have basically completed the inventory of current work, facilities, equipment, weapons, etc., and can immediately hand over and receive them, ensuring the normal and smooth operation of the entire Ho Chi Minh City Police force when implementing the new organizational model and structure.

According to Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, in order to effectively and qualitatively implement tasks under the new organizational model, the entire Ho Chi Minh City Police force, especially the Party committees and commanders at all levels, must maximize their sense of responsibility, dare to think, dare to act, dare to take responsibility, innovate creatively; act decisively for the common good, ready to sacrifice personal interests; overcome difficulties and challenges, wholeheartedly serve the Fatherland and the people; and promptly detect and resolve any obstacles and new issues arising in practical work.

Starting March 1st, along with police forces nationwide, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department officially adopted a new organizational structure and apparatus; eliminating district-level police departments. Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department reduced its number of units from 55 to 33, including a reduction of 246 team-level units. Simultaneously, several tasks transferred from other departments and agencies have officially commenced operations.

In the coming period, the Ho Chi Minh City Police will continue to urgently review, reorganize, and assign officers to ensure improved effectiveness and efficiency in carrying out the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State, and the people.

At the conference, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police announced and presented decisions on personnel matters within the City Police. In particular, the City Police promptly reviewed and implemented procedures and processes, reporting and seeking approval from the Ministry of Public Security leadership, and signed decisions appointing Deputy Heads of the Security Investigation Agency and Criminal Investigation Agency of the Ho Chi Minh City Police.
