On the afternoon of November 5, the Traffic Police Department (PC08, Ho Chi Minh City Police) informed that the locality currently has more than 12 million vehicles that need to be screened, have their data collected and cleaned.
Over the years, vehicle registration and management have played an important role in maintaining traffic order and safety, limiting stolen and counterfeit vehicles, and supporting investigation and handling of violations. However, because records are managed through many stages, most of them are stored manually, while the number of vehicles increases rapidly, making the data system huge and complicated. Commune-level police forces go to each household in the area to check, compare, and collect information on vehicle owners and vehicles.
Faced with the urgent need for digital transformation, the City Police have issued a plan to comprehensively review and clean vehicle registration data and digitize all vehicle records.
To date, more than 205,000 vehicles have been screened. The implementation process has revealed many cases of data mismatches, vehicle owners changing residence, transferring ownership but not completing the name change procedure, or the vehicle no longer exists. Commune-level police go to people's homes to collect missing information related to the vehicle and vehicle owner to supplement and update.

The review helps eliminate duplicate, incorrect, and inaccurately identified data, contributing to the formation of a unified data system, effectively serving public management and administration. The City Police recommends that people cooperate to provide complete and accurate information. In case of selling a vehicle but not transferring the ownership or buying a vehicle through multiple owners of unknown origin, it is necessary to go to the vehicle registration agency to carry out the procedures for declaration, revocation, and transfer of ownership according to regulations.
In parallel with the cleaning work, the City Police are promoting the digitization of vehicle registration records. To date, more than 76,000 records have been converted to electronic form, assigned identification codes for owners and vehicles, and stored on a highly secure system. This helps reduce paper records, save costs, and at the same time improve the ability to access and share data with relevant agencies such as vehicle inspection, tax, insurance, banks, etc.
