Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Xuan Hiep, Chief of Van Ban Commune Police, chaired the meeting.

The project "Connecting traffic in the Northern mountainous provinces" includes two main routes, of which route 1 connects Lai Chau with the Hanoi - Lao Cai highway; route 2 connects Nghia Lo commune with the Hanoi - Lao Cai highway.

In Van Ban commune (including 5 communes and old towns), there are 2 bidding packages, XL-01 and XL-02, which are scheduled to be completed 100% of the volume by June 2025. However, the project has been extended by the Ministry of Construction until June 2026.

Up to now, the construction progress of some contractors has only reached about 60%.

Van Ban Commune Police requested contractors to urgently carry out construction while ensuring traffic safety and environmental sanitation measures in the construction area.

According to people's feedback, in the past few months, contractors and construction units have only been working at a moderate pace; along the route, many construction sites are unfinished, lacking warning signs in dangerous areas, potentially posing a safety risk to people and vehicles passing by. The unsynchronized construction has also led to road surface deterioration; some embankments and drains are cracked, broken, and of poor quality, causing frustration among the people.

At the meeting, representatives of Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction); consulting and supervisory units and contractors explained the slow construction progress.

According to the units, the main cause is due to unusual weather; some households have not agreed with the compensation price for site clearance, leading to some sections on the route being unable to be constructed.

The units committed to speed up the progress, completing the project ahead of schedule and on schedule, which has been extended to June 2026.
