The royal banana tree was brought to Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district for about 20 years. Over the years, the banana acreage has been continuously expanded; the royal banana is gradually becoming a commodity product, ordered by consumers in the province and traders from other provinces and cities in the country. Currently, the whole commune has about 70 hectares of bananas for harvest.
To make royal bananas an OCOP product, Cam Con commune has coordinated with specialized agencies to complete legal procedures so that the product can be certified to ensure food hygiene and safety, and have a stamp of traceability, origin, and geographical indication.

In addition to Hong Cam royal banana products, red-fleshed dragon fruit is also a specialty of Bao Yen district. Currently, red-fleshed dragon fruit trees are grown in the communes of Bao Ha, Viet Tien, Minh Tan, with about 50 hectares. Red-fleshed dragon fruit trees are easy to grow and care for, suitable for many types of soil, including poor soil, and are less susceptible to pests and diseases. In a year, red-fleshed dragon fruit is harvested in many batches, with an average of 32 - 35 tons of fruit per hectare. Organic red-fleshed dragon fruit in Minh Tan commune has been certified as a 3-star OCOP product of Lao Cai province (2020).
In recent years, Hong Cam royal banana and Bao Yen red dragon fruit have been key products for poverty reduction, new rural construction and socio -economic development in Bao Yen district. To increase the economic efficiency of the products, Bao Yen district has developed a synchronous value chain through building, managing and developing product brands.

At the ceremony, representatives of the Department of Science and Technology of Lao Cai province awarded the certification marks "Bao Yen Dragon Fruit" and "Hong Cam Royal Banana".
Building the certification brands "Hong Cam Royal Banana" and "Bao Yen Dragon Fruit" contributes to enhancing the reputation of the products in the market, while promoting economic efficiency in agricultural production of Bao Yen district in particular and Lao Cai province in general.
