After an initial pilot phase from late 2022, FOUR PAWS has upgraded its tool page, allowing Vietnamese citizens and international visitors to report any incidents related to the dog and cat meat trade that they witness, including restaurants, dog and cat meat markets, and pet thefts...
These reports will be submitted anonymously and confidentially to promote enforcement of existing laws, as well as help shape policy changes to improve the welfare of millions of dogs and cats in Vietnam.
Since its pilot in Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City, the FOUR PAWS reporting tool has garnered a lot of public attention. From November 2022 to December 2024, the tool received 597 reports (including 1,549 incidents) related to dog and cat meat trade activities.
Rebecca Dharmpaul, FOUR PAWS Dog and Cat Meat Trade Specialist, said: “The interest and active participation of hundreds of residents and visitors demonstrates the need to expand the toolkit in Vietnam. There is a clear need for animal lovers in Vietnam and abroad to protect their beloved and vulnerable companion animals – a view we deeply sympathise with and support. FOUR PAWS is ready to facilitate this so that together we can continually find new and better ways to protect dogs, cats and the wider animal population.”
Ms. Phan Thanh Dung, Animal Welfare Coordinator (Dogs/Cats) of FOUR PAWS in Vietnam, said: Through the reporting tool, we not only want to contribute to the protection of millions of dogs and cats in Vietnam, but also to protect local people and tourists, including children, from the negative emotional and psychological impacts that this trade causes.
FOUR PAWS encourages all those who witness activities related to the dog and cat meat trade to come forward and use the reporting tool by clicking on the link or scanning the QR code. By reporting these activities, the public will play an active role in protecting animal welfare.
