Hearing that storm No. 3 ( Yagi ) caused heavy damage in the Northern provinces, on the afternoon of September 11, the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany held a fundraising event to support people affected by super storm Yagi.
This is also one of the practical activities in response to the call of General Secretary and President To Lam, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son in the emergency relief campaign for people who suffered losses and were severely affected after the storm, which was assessed as the biggest in the past 60 years.
Attending the launching ceremony were a working delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and representatives of Vietnamese associations in Germany.
On behalf of the Embassy, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh reported that in recent days, the Vietnamese community in Germany has always been interested in and closely followed the developments of super typhoon Yagi in Vietnam and wishes to share the losses of our compatriots in the country.
In the spirit of mutual love and support, the Embassy has mobilized all staff and employees, including departments under and next to the Embassy (Overseas Party Committee, Military Affairs, Trade Affairs, Planning and Investment, Education, Science and Technology, Vietnam News Agency), each person to donate 3 days' salary to support flood victims.
The total donation from the Embassy's staff is 3,330 euros. On the occasion of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang's delegation's visit to Berlin, the Embassy requested the delegation to help transfer the donation from the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Germany to the victims as quickly and directly as possible.
Even more touching, right after the appeal was issued, associations across Germany simultaneously spread the message “Towards the beloved North,” to create a great effect, demonstrate solidarity, and join hands to donate emergency support to compatriots affected by Typhoon Yagi.
The Vietnamese Women's Union across Germany, under the call of President Trinh Thi Mui, immediately received enthusiastic response from members, with the initial amount collected being 10,000 euros.
According to Ms. Mui, the warmest thing right now is the spirit of solidarity and cooperation of the Vietnamese community, the children living abroad always wholeheartedly towards their homeland.
Although not present at the launch event, Sen Vang, one of the largest charities in Berlin, sent out a message with the call to “Love while we still can.”
The call immediately received a positive response and the amount of donations exceeded expectations with 8,000 euros in just one day of appeal. For the Golden Lotus Charity Association, practical spiritual and material assistance will alleviate pain and loss, contributing to the rapid restoration of production and stabilization of people's lives.
Dong Xuan Women's Association, October Club, Truong Sa Club, Hai Phong People's Association, Nam Dinh Association, Vu and Vo families, and Vietnamese Students' Association in Berlin-Brandenburg were also the first organizations to be present at the launching ceremony to support people in flood-hit areas.
In addition to the plan of the Vietnamese Association in the Federal Republic of Germany to organize a large donation drive at Dong Xuan Trade Center on September 15, many associations across Germany are continuing to carry out donation activities, joining hands, joining forces, joining hearts to help people and flood victims overcome difficulties soon.
In addition to 8,000 euros (nearly 225 million VND) from the Golden Lotus Charity Association, after the launching ceremony, according to preliminary statistics from the Vietnamese Embassy, the total amount of donations on the afternoon of September 11 was nearly 17,500 euros (equivalent to nearly 500 million VND). The entire amount of donations at the Embassy will be transferred by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang's delegation to the affected people as quickly and directly as possible.
Meanwhile, on the morning of September 12, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria held a launching ceremony, calling for donations to share the difficulties and losses with Vietnamese people in areas heavily affected by natural disasters.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, all officials and employees of the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria and other agencies such as the Trade Office, Military Office, and the Vietnam News Agency Resident Office in Algeria participated in donating to support compatriots who are suffering heavy losses in human lives and property in the country.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh said that all the money raised at the launching ceremony (more than 18 million VND) will be quickly transferred to promptly share difficulties as well as support people to quickly restore production and life. The donation will continue to be carried out in the coming days.
The activities of the Vietnamese community in Algeria, though small, are a valuable source of encouragement for compatriots in the country, demonstrating the tradition of solidarity and the Vietnamese people's morality of "helping each other".
