According to figures released by the Russian Investigative Committee on the morning of March 23, the death toll in the shooting has risen to 60 victims. More than a hundred others were injured and are being treated in hospital.
Russian authorities have not yet searched all the rooms in the Crocus City Hall complex and the death toll may still rise.
The international community and governments around the world have sent condolences and condemned the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue outside Moscow, Russia.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned “in the strongest possible terms today’s terrorist attack,” according to a statement issued by his deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq. “The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and to the people and Government of the Russian Federation. He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured,” the statement said.
In a separate statement, the United Nations Security Council called the attack "heinous and cowardly".
Meanwhile, European Union (EU) spokesman Peter Stano said in a statement posted on social network X (formerly Twitter): "The EU is shocked and horrified by reports of a terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in Moscow. The EU condemns any attack against innocent people. Our thoughts are with all Russian citizens affected."
French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned the attack. "France expresses its solidarity with the victims, their relatives and all the Russian people," the Elysee Palace said.
Several American countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Bolivia expressed solidarity with the Russian government and people.
The attack at the Crocus City Hall complex is considered one of the worst in Russia since the 2004 Beslan school siege on the first day of school, when Islamist militants took more than 1,000 people, mostly children, hostage. The massacre left 386 people dead and 700 injured .
