Green technology

In English, green technology is called GreenTech or CleanTech. Therefore, green technology is also known as clean technology. The concept of green technology actually began to be mentioned in the 1990s, but it became a pressing need and became more common in the 2010s. Several industrial revolutions, such as the use of solar panels or the use of plastic waste alternatives, have started a new global trend. The biggest goal of green technology is environmental protection. In other words, protecting the environment and making it cleaner is the mission of green technology.

One of the biggest challenges the world faces today is limiting carbon emissions to address the climate crisis. In the coming years, technological advances will likely revolve around green hydrogen, a new clean-burning energy source that produces near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Shell and RWE, two major European energy companies, are creating the first large-scale green pipeline from wind power plants in the North Sea.

In Vietnam, green industries are also considered a driving force for the economy . Vietnam views clean industries and clean energy as key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 8%, with a target of further reduction of 1.5-2% by 2050. Therefore, the government always encourages businesses to apply green industries in their production and business activities.

In the current context, encouraging businesses to pursue clean industries is not only timely but also aligns with the country's direction. To achieve this, on April 4, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 707/QD-UBND on the establishment of a working group and support team for the construction of the Ben Tre Green Hydropower Plant Complex to advise the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing investment and construction procedures, and to support the Ben Tre Green Hydropower Plant Complex in its early commencement of construction and operation.

Sustainable technology

Sustainable technology is a general term describing all innovations that consider natural resources and promote socio-economic development. The goal of these technologies is to significantly reduce environmental and ecological risks while creating sustainable products. They can include applications of a range of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, cloud computing, augmented reality (ER), robotic process automation (RPA), and many others.

Sustainable technology can be applied in three key areas of a business: internal information technology systems, operations, and customer service. For example, a company's IT departments can move their resources to cloud computing platforms to utilize more professional design, storage, and security services. Businesses can automate as many business processes as possible through digital transformation, using virtual (or real) robots for repetitive tasks, or using AI to support data analysis and decision-making. They should also consider adopting less resource-intensive solutions such as energy-efficient LED lighting or using materials that adhere to circular economy principles. When many customers want a sustainable product but are unwilling to compromise on quality and cost, businesses can offer compelling solutions such as blockchain-based traceability or energy-saving certification labels that reduce carbon emissions. The world will witness a continued push toward making supply chains more transparent. This is as consumers demand products and services that are more energy-efficient and backed by more sustainable technologies.

According to The Green Solutions Group, the Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Plant is expected to be built in Bao Thuan commune, Ba Tri district. The plant will utilize German hydrogen production technology, which is still relatively new to the Vietnamese market. The Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Plant will be built on an estimated land area of 22.7 hectares. Once operational, the project will contribute to the development of Vietnam's green energy sector in general and the province in particular.
