In December 2023, Honda Vietnam Company (HVN) and the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province organized the "Launching Ceremony of Tree Planting in 2024 with the goal of "For a greener Vietnam and protecting the environment of Vinh Phuc province".
Accordingly, this year's tree planting activity was implemented by HVN with a total area of 8.03 hectares at 3 locations in the province, namely the Green Park - Tay Thien Festival Center and two new roads in Tam Dao district, the Eastern belt road of Tam Dao district and the road connecting Dong Dau bridge with Hop Chau - Dong Tinh road, planting more than 3,000 trees of all kinds.
This is a meaningful activity demonstrating the community responsibility of HVN, Vinh Phuc province and the people to join hands to create a sustainable ecological environment and respond to the program of planting 1 billion trees "For a green Vietnam" in the period of 2021 - 2025 as well as contributing to realizing the goal of neutralizing greenhouse gases by 2050 of Vietnam as committed by the Prime Minister at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP 26.
Mr. Koji Sugita, General Director of Honda Vietnam Company said: HVN's tree planting activities in cooperation with local authorities not only bring fresh air, but also contribute to building a green life for the people.
Since 2008, HVN has planted more than 822 hectares of forests and trees, contributing to creating a sustainable ecological environment in the province and nationwide. In 2023 alone, HVN contributed 1,100 urban trees of all kinds through the "Tree Planting Festival 2023 - Together with Honda, keep Vietnam green forever" in Bac Giang province.
Over the past 27 years, as a leading automobile and motorbike manufacturing and trading enterprise in Vietnam, HVN has not only strived to provide safe, high-quality products to customers but also implemented many meaningful community activities with the aim of raising awareness of environmental protection with the Vietnamese people every day.
With the slogan "Together with Honda to keep Vietnam green forever", HVN has implemented the project of afforestation under the clean development mechanism (AR - CDM) in Hoa Binh province in the period of 2003 - 2011 through reforestation on a total area of 309 hectares of bare hills; the project is estimated to absorb about 41,000 tons of CO2 in 16 years and attract 320 farming households to participate with 2 main crops: Acacia mangium and Acacia indigo.
In this project, HVN supported 3.5 billion VND and organized more than 1,000 officers and employees of the company to plant an additional 10 hectares of forest outside the project. The project was also recognized by the United Nations as the first AR-CDM project in Vietnam.
Then, in 2013, HVN continued to sponsor 4.9 billion VND to plant 490 hectares of production forest in Bac Kan province. After 8 years (2013 - 2020), it is estimated that the project will harvest 73,500 m3 of wood, bringing in a profit of about 50 billion VND. Households participating in the project benefit 100% from selling wood products after harvest.
Thus, the project not only has the meaning of protecting the environment, reforesting barren hills, and reducing toxic emissions into the air, but also has high economic value for local people.
Along with tree planting activities, in 2023, HVN put into operation the rooftop solar system at 2 factories in Vinh Phuc and Ha Nam with a total capacity of 8MWp... thereby reducing the use of national grid electricity by more than 7.5 million kWh/year, equivalent to reducing about 4,700 tons of CO2/year.
At the same time, promote the detection and reduction of energy waste points through the PMS energy monitoring system; reuse domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater, and reuse rainwater for production purposes.
Through energy-saving activities and the application of rooftop solar systems, in 2023, HVN has reduced about 3,299 tons of CO2 emissions, 44,149 m3 of water consumption and 1,082 tons of waste generated; in 2024, it is expected to reduce 16% of CO2 compared to 2019.
Contributing to protecting the green environment with the goal of reducing 46% CO2 by 2030 compared to 2019 and aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, in the coming time, along with strengthening energy-saving activities and developing clean energy sources; deploying the application of new energy-saving technologies for production equipment, HVN continues to participate in tree planting activities to protect the environment, spreading environmental protection awareness to employees, local people and the community.
