Important milestone in the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

On the afternoon of August 13, General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Busan city for Vietnam, successfully concluding their State visit to South Korea from August 10-13, at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and his wife.

During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with President Lee Jae Myung, witnessed the handover of cooperation documents, met with the press, met with Prime Minister Kim Min Seok, National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Sik, etc. In a friendly, sincere and open atmosphere, the two sides exchanged many opinions and reached important common perceptions on comprehensively promoting and deepening the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two sides issued a Joint Statement outlining key areas of cooperation to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both sides agreed that the State visit to the Republic of Korea by General Secretary To Lam and his wife was a great success, marking an important milestone opening a new chapter in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

In the context that Vietnam is in the process of building and implementing major development orientations for the country, General Secretary To Lam's State visit this time further demonstrates the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness, comprehensive, deep and effective international integration, and is also an important foreign activity to promote the implementation of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation.

The goal is to build a modern port, linked to the international logistics network.

Previously, on August 13, General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation visited Busan Seaport in Busan city. Here, General Secretary To Lam and the delegation heard about the technology of operating smart ports, 100% automation and the goal of developing seaports in the coming time.

General Secretary To Lam was impressed with the organization, management and development goals of the port, not only as a transit point for goods but also as a comprehensive logistics ecosystem; the driving force for physical infrastructure development combined with digital infrastructure; science and technology and national strategy combined with market capacity. The General Secretary shared that Vietnam is increasingly integrating deeply and the successful lessons of Korea, including Busan Port, are vivid practices that can be shared for Vietnam to build a development strategy suitable to its own context. As a country with a sea and a central geographical location in Southeast Asia, Vietnam also aims to build modern port clusters, apply digital technology, operate according to green standards, be environmentally friendly, and closely connect with economic corridors and international logistics networks. Plan a number of port clusters in the south and north with the orientation of becoming international transit ports, capable of receiving large ships, meeting the global supply chain and playing a connecting role between Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.

The General Secretary is very interested in the development strategy of Busan Port and hopes that Busan Port will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese seaports; promote investment in building new-generation seaports in Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Gia Lai, An Giang, Ca Mau, etc.; support the training of engineers and experts in seaport operations, which will be the team that builds the foundation for cooperation in the coming time. The General Secretary hopes that relevant agencies of the two countries will continue to cooperate closely, opening a new chapter for the Vietnam - Korea relationship to develop further in the spirit of solidarity, towards the common prosperity of the two countries.

Vivid evidence of the depth of Vietnam - Korea relations

On the same day, General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of friendly and cooperative relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan city.

Speaking at the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Friendship and Cooperation Relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan City, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that this is the result of more than 30 years of cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, which has been upgraded within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Friendship and Cooperation Relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan City is a vivid demonstration of the depth of the relationship between the two countries and affirms the indispensable role of local cooperation in the overall substantive cooperation between the two countries.

The General Secretary emphasized that Busan city has an important position in the bilateral cooperation relationship; congratulated Busan on its achievements and results in recent times. Vietnam's opening of the Consulate General here demonstrates its respect for Busan city's position in relations with Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City and other localities of Vietnam.

According to the General Secretary, Busan city has a lot of potential to continue developing relations with Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City is a large urban area of Vietnam, with full potential and a modern development vision. Busan and Ho Chi Minh City are both major economic centers, leading innovation centers of Vietnam and Korea, and the two sides have many conditions to continue cooperation for mutual development.

The General Secretary hoped that in the coming time, Busan city will continue to expand its cooperative relations with many other localities and cities of Vietnam. Coastal provinces of Vietnam also have many opportunities to expand cooperation with Busan city. The companionship and coordination of the government and people of Busan city with Ho Chi Minh City and other localities of Vietnam will certainly effectively realize the orientations for developing cooperative relations that the leaders of the two countries have just agreed upon.

Also on August 13, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Park Hyeong Jun - Mayor of Busan city and former Honorary Consul General of Vietnam in Busan region Park Soo Kwan.
