According to Tom's Hardware , user 'wytiwx' used a system with an Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex motherboard, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and Windows 7 operating system to achieve the impressive feat of successfully overclocking an Intel i9-14900KF CPU to a clock speed of 9.12 GHz, breaking the previous world record and officially entering the 9 GHz mark.

Intel i9-14900KF CPU: Intel's most powerful gaming 'monster'

To achieve the 9.121 GHz clock speed, 'wytiwx' had to use liquid nitrogen or helium cooling solutions, while increasing the core voltage to 1.387V. This new record is only 4 MHz higher than the previous record, showing that the CPU overclocking race is extremely fierce.

Notably, this user also disabled all E-cores (power-saving cores) and turned off hyper-threading on the i9-14900KF chip.

The Intel i9-14900KF is one of Intel's most powerful gaming CPUs today, boasting 24 cores (8 P-cores and 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. However, the i9-14900KF's lead is being threatened by AMD's Ryzen X3D CPUs with advanced V-Cache technology.

Impressive overclocking results like these show the potential of computer hardware. However, it is important to note that these are tests under extreme conditions with special system cooling solutions and do not reflect the actual performance of the CPU in everyday use.

While frequency isn't the only factor that determines CPU performance, hitting the 10 GHz mark is certainly the next goal for the overclocking community. Can Intel deliver on its 25-year-old promise of a 10 GHz CPU? We'll see.
