During 80 years of construction and development, the Tax industry has gone through historical stages associated with the glorious revolutionary cause of the nation.
In particular, from 2011 to present, the Tax sector has achieved many breakthroughs in comprehensive reform and modernization, notably the construction of an electronic database on taxpayers, the implementation of national electronic invoices, the digitization of the tax management system, aiming to build a tax management system on a big data platform and the integration of artificial intelligence.

Director of the Tax Department Mai Xuan Thanh said that the Tax sector has always been a pillar of the national budget revenue. The total state budget revenue managed by the Tax sector has continuously grown impressively, from 5.2 trillion VND in 1990, to date it has exceeded 1.7 million billion VND and is expected to exceed 2 million billion VND by 2025 (380 times higher than in 1990). The revenue structure has changed positively, the proportion of domestic revenue has increased gradually over the years, showing sustainable development from the internal strength of the economy .
Electronic invoices, electronic invoices generated from cash registers, eTax Mobile application, Information portal for foreign suppliers, Information portal for households and individuals doing e-commerce business, AI application supporting taxpayers, automatic personal income tax refund application... are outstanding results of the Tax sector in digital transformation.
To date, over 99% of businesses use electronic tax declaration and payment services; 100% of businesses use electronic invoices; and nearly 7 million people use Etax mobile...
At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the Tax Department; and the Third Class Labor Medal to Director of the Tax Department Mai Xuan Thanh. In addition, 5 groups under the Tax Department were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister.
Congratulating the Tax sector on the results achieved, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang requested the Tax sector to proactively review and propose amendments to legal documents on tax management to ensure consistency, transparency, fairness, ease of understanding, and implementation, not only mobilizing resources for the budget but also creating a favorable business environment and encouraging innovation.
Strive for 100% of tax administrative procedures to be performed online, connected, and fully in the digital environment; continue to carry out comprehensive digital transformation of tax management, build a centralized database, etc.
“The Tax sector must strictly manage and effectively exploit potential revenue sources, especially in areas such as e-commerce, digital economy and cross-border activities, while combating invoice fraud and tax refunds, to ensure fairness and equality in tax obligations,” the Minister of Finance said.
