On April 30, when the whole country was joyfully celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, at a house on Nguyen Duc Canh Street (Tuong Mai Ward, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi ), a small family was also happily reuniting.
Miraculously, after 57 years of separation, Mr. Chu Nghiem (born in 1941, residing in Tuong Mai ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) and his daughter, Ms. Chu Thi Tuyet Mai (after separation, Ms. Mai was adopted by a family and named Nguyen Thi Thuy), born in 1967, residing in Doan Bai commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province, found each other thanks to the national population database system and the dedicated help of officers and soldiers of Cua Nam ward police (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi) and related units.

Talking to us, Mr. Chu Nghiem still couldn't help but feel emotional when recalling the 57-year journey of searching for his daughter. For him, the day he received a phone call from the Cua Nam Ward Police informing him that his daughter was looking for him was one of the happiest days of his life!
Mr. Nghiem's house was next to Hanoi Railway Station. One day in mid-December 1968, his daughter, Ms. Chu Thi Tuyet Mai, born on April 17, 1967 (only 20 months old at the time), went missing. According to the family's speculation, while no one was paying attention, Ms. Mai might have gone out to Hanoi Railway Station to play and didn't know the way back and got lost. Without a single photo, without any valuable clues, all Mr. Nghiem had were memories of her birthday, the day she went missing, and the call "Daddy" from his daughter who was learning to talk...
During the past 57 years, the family has not stopped hoping and looking forward to the day of reunion. Mr. Nghiem and his family have traveled far and wide to search for their daughter in many places across the country; asked social networking sites, radio stations to post news about their daughter, and even appeared on the program As if there had never been a separation, but…, all searches have been fruitless. Thinking of his daughter, he tossed and turned many nights until tears welled up. The old father's last wish was to see his daughter again while he was still alive, even if just once, that would be enough.

About 60 km from Hanoi, in Khanh Van village, Doan Bai commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province, there is a middle-aged female farmer who also hopes to meet her biological parents to know her roots. That is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy. All she has is little, vague information about being adopted at Hanoi Railway Station in mid-December 1968. By mid-March 2025, through social networks, Ms. Thuy learned that a person named Chu Nghiem was also looking for a child with information similar to her situation. However, Ms. Thuy did not know how to contact Mr. Nghiem.
As if on cue, on March 24, Ms. Thuy traveled from her hometown to the Hanoi Railway Station area with the faint hope of finding her relatives. There, she asked many families around Hanoi Railway Station about Mr. Chu Nghiem but to no avail. Luckily, Ms. Thuy met the Working Group of the Cua Nam Ward Police who were working at Hanoi Railway Station.
After explaining her situation, Ms. Thuy was guided by the working group to the ward police headquarters. Here, she was enthusiastically helped by the officers in the unit to find her relatives. With close coordination between the Cua Nam ward police and the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order - Hanoi City Police, the first clues and information about her father appeared.
After about 30 minutes of phone calls, Mr. Chu Nghiem and his relatives arrived at the Cua Nam Ward Police Station to directly discuss and talk with Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy to clarify further related information. On April 25, Mr. Chu Nghiem went to the Cua Nam Ward Police Station to announce the good news, through DNA testing, it was determined that Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy was indeed his biological daughter Chu Thi Tuyet Mai who had been lost.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Quy, Chief of Cua Nam Ward Police, said: With little and patchy information, only the full name as told by Ms. Thuy, the search encountered many difficulties. However, with a high sense of responsibility, "Serving the people", officers and soldiers of Cua Nam Ward Police proceeded to review the records, look up information on the national population database and the ID card issuance system. Fortunately, the ward police became the "bridge" to help Mr. Nghiem and his daughter meet again after nearly six decades apart. Witnessing the tears of joy of the father and daughter in this miraculous reunion was also the joy of the officers and soldiers in the unit. This is one of the proofs of the effectiveness of Project No. 06 of the Government .
Over the years, thanks to the national population database system and a sense of responsibility, units in the Hanoi City Police have helped many families find lost relatives and reunite them.
