The meeting was chaired by Ms. Gina Marie Raimondo - Secretary of the US Department of Commerce (DOC). The meeting was attended by Ministers and representatives of 14 IPEF member countries including: Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States. On the Vietnamese side, the delegation included representatives of the following ministries and sectors: Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security , Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ministry of Planning and Investment.
At the meeting, the Ministers welcomed the significant progress made by IPEF countries since the IPEF Ministerial Meeting in Singapore in June 2024. In particular, the Ministers welcomed the Pillar III Agreement on the Clean Economy, which is expected to enter into force on 11 October 2024, creating an important opportunity for countries to continue to deepen trade and economic cooperation and bring about practical and concrete benefits from these Agreements. The Ministers also discussed the direction for the IPEF Framework, outlining action steps in the coming time.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan highly appreciated the efforts, determination and results that IPEF countries have achieved, and affirmed that Vietnam always supports and is ready to discuss with IPEF member countries to contribute to building practical contents suitable to the development conditions of each member. Vietnam highly appreciates and welcomes the countries that have taken the first steps in implementing the Pillar II Agreement on Supply Chain Resilience by organizing meetings on the operating mechanism of this Agreement, and welcomes the Cooperation Programs proposed by the United States and other countries for the implementation of the Pillar III Agreement. These programs will be the basis for realizing the goals and commitments set forth, contributing significantly to helping IPEF countries improve the effectiveness of implementation and bring practical benefits. Vietnam affirms that it will continue to actively participate in activities with practical contributions to countries in the process of putting the Pillars into implementation.
