The event is even more meaningful as it is held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Hungary diplomatic relations and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-European Union diplomatic relations.
Of the 182 entries received (98 essays and 84 poems) by 144 authors from 18 countries, the organizing committee, including the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe and the Vietnam Writers' Association, selected 18 works in two genres of poetry and essays to award prizes, of which the First Prize worth 2,000 USD went to the work "Vong quay" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong An from France.
One of the surprises for the judges was that the author from Italy, Huynh Ngoc Nga, 76 years old, the oldest in the competition, won second prize for her work "Father's Chessboard."
Head of the jury, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, poet and writer Nguyen Quang Thieu shared that this is an extremely meaningful writing contest because for the first time the topic of Vietnamese women living abroad has been mentioned. A completely new topic, not simple but very profound, giving readers more specific perspectives on the lives of Vietnamese women living abroad.
In an interview with VNA reporters in Europe, poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, affirmed that organizing a poetry writing contest about Vietnamese women living abroad is a very unique initiative. Because this is a contest for non-professional women, meaning that the participants are not staged or creative, but quiet and profound like their own lives.
Life is brought to life on paper, so the pages are very real, not imposed, not fictional and very emotional. It can be said that this is a panoramic picture of the life of women in a foreign land, vividly describing many situations and fates.
Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Women’s Forum in Europe and head of the organizing committee, Dr. Phan Bich Thien, expressed her joy at the success of the contest. She said this was the first time a poetry writing contest was held on the topic of Vietnamese women living abroad and was also exclusively for Vietnamese women living abroad.
According to Dr. Phan Bich Thien, the life of Vietnamese women living far from home requires great efforts, silent sacrifices and aspects that many people do not know. The desire to honor women and at the same time help domestic readers understand more about Vietnamese women living far from home is the motivation for the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe to organize this special contest.
It can be said that the writing contest about Vietnamese women living abroad is a great opportunity for women to share their own stories during their time living abroad. The judges and organizers highly appreciated the entries because they may not be professionally polished in terms of literary and artistic quality, but they are very touching in terms of honesty.

More than a literary contest, this is truly a journey of connecting souls - where the hearts of hundreds of women are raised through poetry, through simple yet passionate prose. Each submitted work is a separate world , authentic stories, carrying within it the nostalgia for being far away from home, memories of home, the silent sacrifices and extraordinary inner strength of Vietnamese women.
The award ceremony of the contest was held at the Senate chamber of the Hungarian Parliament and was honored by Permanent Vice President of the National Assembly Mátrai Márta and the delegation of the Vietnam Writers Association led by Vice President Tran Dang Khoa.
The fact that the award ceremony was held at the headquarters of the highest legislative body of the host country is a testament to the increasingly enhanced position of Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese women abroad in particular, accompanying the country in the era of national development./.
