“August Revolution 1945: The first great victory of the Vietnamese people in the 20th century” was first published in 2020. The book is a meticulous research work, clarifying the movement and explosion process of the August Revolution - the great general uprising that brought the Vietnamese people from slavery to masters of the country, opening an era of independence and freedom. This is also a priceless heritage of the art of revolutionary leadership, mobilizing the strength of the entire nation, "using our own strength to liberate ourselves".
The work recreates the entire historical context from the outbreak of World War II (September 1939), when the Indochinese Communist Party put the task of national liberation first, to September 2, 1945 - the moment President Ho Chi Minh read the "Declaration of Independence". The book is 448 pages thick, consisting of 6 chapters, presenting coherently the stages: From the fate of the nation under the French - Japanese rule and the Party's decision to "change strategy"; the process of arousing and gathering national strength; combining political and armed struggle; the movement to resist Japan to save the country; the climax of the General Uprising; to summarizing the stature, value and lessons of the August Revolution. In particular, the book deeply analyzes two historical conferences of the Party Central Committee (November 1939 and May 1941) - strategic turning points that brought the Vietnamese revolution to the path of national liberation, creating the premise for victory.
According to the authors, the decisive factor for the success of the August Revolution was the correct, resolute, and creative leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh . The Party "correctly grasped" the sacred aspirations of the nation, promoted the national interests to the highest level, and at the same time organized the great national unity bloc through the Viet Minh Front, taking the worker-peasant alliance as the foundation. From the villages, hamlets to the cities, from all classes, strata, ethnicities and religions, the entire people oriented towards the goal of independence and freedom. The process of preparing for the uprising was carried out urgently, secretly and widely, creating a strong force to seize the historical opportunity. Since the victory in the fall of 1945, the Vietnamese people have continued to write heroic pages in the two resistance wars against colonialism and imperialism, as well as in the cause of building, defending and innovating the country.
Mr. Tran Dinh Ba, Deputy Director - Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House, commented: “The work was carefully and seriously done by prestigious experts of the Party History Institute, contributing to clarifying historical issues related to the August Revolution process, the historical significance of this historical event for the nation and people in 1945 as well as the stature of this victory in the general process of national history in the 20th century. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the work was republished to celebrate the great anniversary of the nation. But more deeply, we hope that this work and many books related to the event will be released, contributing to becoming a source of reference materials, for readers, especially the generation born after the war, to read to know, understand, and absorb the value of the event 80 years ago in the process of national history, to maintain and promote patriotism, and to cherish the values of the country. The rule of our ancestors has created independence, freedom and peace for us today".
