Through examination, the doctors discovered a wound on the left side of the sternum under the left collarbone about 3cm, the wound size about 1.5cm penetrating into the chest. When the chest was opened, the wound was found to penetrate from top to bottom, hitting the upper lobe of the left lung, perforating the front of the right atrium. The patient had a pericardial hematoma, losing 1,000ml of blood.
Doctors and nurses at Vung Tau Hospital focused all their efforts on rescuing the patient. The surgery lasted nearly 3 hours and the patient was transfused with two units of packed red blood cells and two units of plasma.
Thanks to that, the female student's life was saved in time. By March 13, the patient's health had stabilized.
