On the afternoon of November 17, Tien Phuoc Pacific Hospital (located in Tien Phuoc commune, Da Nang city) announced that it had successfully removed a leech from a 72-year-old female patient.
On the same morning, Ms. LTL (72 years old, residing in Tra Lien commune, Da Nang city) came to Thai Binh Duong Tien Phuoc Hospital for examination in a state of frequent nosebleeds in the left nostril, the amount was small and the bleeding stopped on its own. The patient did not have a stuffy nose or a runny nose.

A 6cm long leech was removed.
At the ENT department, Ms. L. underwent an endoscopy and discovered a live leech in her left nostril. The leech was about 6cm long, covering the middle and upper nostrils. During the endoscopy, the doctors successfully removed the leech. The patient's health was stable and she was allowed to go home immediately after the endoscopy.
Doctors say that blood-sucking wounds on the skin are usually painless but cause prolonged bleeding and can be life-threatening, especially when they enter the nose, trachea, or digestive tract.
"People need to be careful in their daily activities, especially those who go to the forest and need to limit drinking water from streams and streams to avoid leeches and leeches from entering their bodies. In addition, those who live in humid mountainous areas, or return from mountainous areas, if they have nosebleeds, stuffy nose or prolonged cough, should go to the nearest medical facility for examination," the ENT doctor advised.
