The information was released by authorities on May 3, amid concerns about why the perpetrator Jesse McFadden, a 39-year-old former sex offender, was released from custody as his trial on new sex charges was about to begin, according to AP.

Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice said each victim had been shot one to three times in the head with a handgun. Their bodies were found on May 1 in a wooded area in rural Oklahoma.

In his latest update on the case, Mr Prentice said the bodies had apparently been moved there from where they were originally killed, with the scene “staged” before McFadden killed himself.

The discovery of the bodies near McFadden's home in Henryetta, a town about 90 miles east of Oklahoma City, came on the same day McFadden was due to stand trial on charges of soliciting nude photos of a teenage girl while McFadden was in prison for rape.

Authorities have refused to reveal a motive for the shooting, but McFadden vowed not to return to prison in a series of text messages to his young victim.

According to screenshots of text messages sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, station KOKI from the woman McFadden is accused of molesting while in prison, McFadden said he was successful in his marketing business and “making a lot of money.” McFadden also wrote that his “great life” was falling apart because of molestation and possession of child sexual abuse images. “Now it’s all gone. I told you I’m not coming back,” McFadden texted.

A solicitation conviction could mean a 10-year prison sentence, while a pornography conviction could mean 20 years behind bars. Sheriff Prentice declined to speculate on Thursday about whether that was a factor in the shooting.

McFadden was sentenced to 20 years in 2003 for first-degree rape in the sexual assault of a 17-year-old victim and was released three years early, in part for good behavior, despite facing new charges that he used a cell phone without permission in 2016 to exchange nude photos with the woman, who was then 16. McFadden was released in 2020 after serving 16 years and nine months, although the new charges could have landed him in prison for many years if convicted.

A spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections did not immediately respond to a request for comment on May 3 about why McFadden was released despite facing new felony charges, according to the AP.
