Rain affects the performance of Vietnamese athletes

Heavy rain at Gumi, where the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships are taking place, caused the tournament to be postponed several times. The women's 4x400m event, which the Vietnamese team is the defending champion, was scheduled to take place at 7:15 p.m. but was delayed by nearly 2 hours.

In the final, Quach Thi Lan and her teammates competed with 6 opponents: Hong Kong (China), South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Of these, India, Sri Lanka and host South Korea were considered formidable by the coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team, competing for the gold medal with the Vietnamese girls.

According to the coaching staff, the youngest runner in the team, Nguyen Thi Ngoc (23 years old), took the lead in the first leg and showed her ability when she finished first. Nguyen Thi Hang ran the second leg, showing signs of running out of breath at the end, allowing her Indian opponent to overtake her. The main runner, Quach Thi Lan, started the third leg with a strong momentum, helping the Vietnamese team regain the advantage. Unfortunately, in the last leg, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, despite her best efforts, only finished second, behind the Indian athlete.

The Indian women's 4x400m relay team won the gold medal with a time of 3 minutes 34 seconds 18, while the Vietnamese team won the silver medal with a time of 3 minutes 34 seconds 77. The Sri Lankan team ranked third with a time of 3 minutes 36 seconds 67. This is not a good achievement for the Vietnamese girls because at the 2024 Asian relay tournament, Quach Thi Lan and her teammates achieved an extremely impressive time of 3 minutes 30 seconds 81, while at the 2023 Asian tournament, the achievement of the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team was 3 minutes 32 seconds 36. The delay of nearly 2 hours due to rain somewhat affected the athletes' performance, leading to results that were not as expected.
