URBAN APPEARANCE IS CHANGING STRONGLY

Before 1975, Da Lat was famous for its pine-lined streets, ancient French architecture and peaceful atmosphere. After the country's reunification, the city began to change to meet the needs of development. Transport infrastructure projects connecting Da Lat with neighboring districts and provinces helped the city escape its status as an "oasis in the sky". New urban areas, commercial centers and new tourist attractions were planned, bringing a more modern look to the city.

One of the outstanding works of this period is Lam Vien Square, with the symbol of wild sunflowers and artichoke buds, which has become a cultural and tourist highlight of Da Lat, the small Lien Khuong airport was upgraded, and has now become an international airport, or the expressway connecting Lien Khuong airport to the foot of Prenn pass is one of the first expressways built in Vietnam, and many other national and provincial highways have been opened and upgraded over the past 50 years.

In addition, high-class resorts such as Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area and modern 4 and 5-star hotels also contribute to changing the urban appearance, turning Da Lat into an attractive destination, meeting the needs of high-class and group guests.

BREAKTHROUGH DEVELOPMENT IN TOURISM AND HIGH-TECH AGRICULTURE

After 1975, Da Lat relied mainly on agriculture, especially growing vegetables and flowers. The city's economy at that time was like that of a simple farmer, diligently planting and harvesting products from the motherland. Vegetables and flowers, gifts from nature, became the economic pillars.

As time goes by, along with the advancement of science and technology, Da Lat has put on a new coat. From handmade vegetable beds, seasonal flower fields, the city has risen to become the high-tech "vegetable and flower capital" of the country. The revolution in agriculture has taken place quietly but effectively. High-tech agriculture is widely applied, from modern greenhouse and net house systems, automatic irrigation to the most advanced quality management processes today. Thanks to that, the productivity and quality of Da Lat agricultural products are constantly improved, affirming its position in the domestic market and reaching out to the international market. Da Lat vegetable and flower brands are increasingly trusted and favored by consumers. Vegetables, flowers, and specialties from Da Lat agricultural products are now not only available in flower shops and supermarkets from popular to high-end across the country but also exported to many countries around the world. Some of the main markets include Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, and countries in the European Union (EU). In addition, Da Lat is also expanding its exports to potential markets such as the US through the Walmart chain. With the development of high-tech agriculture, Da Lat vegetable growing areas are capable of meeting the strict standards of many countries, promising to continue expanding the list of importing countries in the future.

Along with the strong transformation of agriculture, Da Lat tourism industry has also witnessed miraculous developments. The poetic natural beauty, cool climate all year round along with unique architectural works bearing the imprint of ancient France have created an irresistible attraction for the city of thousands of flowers. Realizing that great potential, local authorities and investors have boldly poured capital into building and upgrading tourism infrastructure.

Luxury resorts hidden among pine forests, modern hotels with beautiful views, cozy homestays imbued with local identity are the highlights of Da Lat tourism. Tourism services are also increasingly diverse and professional, meeting all the needs of tourists. From romantic cafes on high hills, night markets that are not too noisy and bustling like in coastal cities but cozy, gentle with the peaceful and romantic highlands, to tours to explore indigenous culture in the suburbs, Da Lat brings unforgettable experiences to millions of visitors every year. The development of tourism not only brings significant income to the city budget but also creates countless job opportunities for people not only in the locality but also in neighboring areas, contributing to improving the quality of life.

Nowadays, the harmonious blend of high-tech agriculture and tourism has increasingly created a dynamic and vibrant Da Lat. Visitors coming here not only admire the natural beauty and enjoy the fresh air, but also have the opportunity to explore high-tech vegetable and flower farms, experience modern production processes and enjoy fresh agricultural products right in the garden. Conversely, agriculture also benefits from tourism when local products have a wider consumption channel, contributing to promoting the brand and enhancing value.

Looking back on the past, Da Lat has made great strides, affirming its position as an important economic, cultural and tourist center of the Central Highlands region and the whole country. The transformation from an economy based mainly on traditional agriculture to tourism and high-tech agriculture is a clear demonstration of the strategic vision, dynamism and creativity of the government and people of Da Lat.

PEOPLE'S LIFE IMPROVED SIGNIFICANTLY

After years of arduous war, Da Lat entered a new era, an era of peace and development. From a small urban area with many difficulties in life, the city of thousands of flowers has risen up, not only preserving the beauty bestowed by nature but also bringing profound changes to the lives of each citizen. That journey is a testament to the will, determination and solidarity of the government and the whole community.

One of the most striking marks in the change of Da Lat is the special attention paid to education and health care. Immediately after the reunification, universal education programs were widely implemented, eliminating illiteracy, opening up learning opportunities for all classes of people. The network of schools at all levels was built and consolidated, from spacious schools in the city center to schools in remote areas. The quality of education is constantly improved, nurturing talented future generations, contributing to building an increasingly civilized city.

Along with education, the grassroots health system has been improved, hospitals and medical centers have been invested with modern equipment, and the medical staff has been constantly improving their professional qualifications. Thanks to that, Da Lat people have access to high-quality health care services, the average life expectancy is increasing, contributing to improving the overall quality of life. In particular, Da Lat has become a knowledge center with more than 20 scientific and technological research facilities, a gathering place for scientists and engineers, contributing to the overall development of the province and the whole country.

Not only focusing on the essential material needs, Da Lat also pays special attention to the spiritual life of the people. Cultural and artistic activities are organized regularly and diversely, from traditional festivals imbued with local identity to contemporary cultural and artistic events. Cultural centers, theaters, and exhibition halls have become familiar meeting places where people and tourists can relax, exchange and enrich their souls. Da Lat is not only a place to live but also a place to enjoy rich cultural and spiritual values.

The positive changes in the lives of Da Lat people cannot fail to mention the important role of the humane social security policy of the local government. Programs to support the poor and people in difficult circumstances have been effectively implemented, helping them stabilize their lives and rise up. Mr. Nguyen Duy Lang (81 years old, Ward 3, Da Lat City) shared: "Since the reunification of the country, Da Lat has witnessed spectacular changes. I see that, with the continuous efforts of the government and the consensus of the people, Da Lat today is not only a famous tourist city but also a livable place, where every citizen feels the positive changes in life, is proud of the achievements and continues to work together towards a brighter future in the next development period".
