Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy changes IELTS certificate requirements

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy accepts IELTS certificates issued before November 17, 2022 for admission to master's and doctoral degrees, after rejecting 44 people in this category.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced the above information on the evening of May 16. In addition to IELTS, other international language certificates such as TOEFL, TOEIC... that are still valid (within 2 years), issued before April 17, are recognized as proof of foreign language proficiency when enrolling in postgraduate level. Candidates are given an extension to submit their applications and supplement their certificates until May 22.

Previously, the school rejected the IELTS certificates of 44 candidates on the grounds that these certificates were issued before November 17, 2022 - the date when the Ministry of Education and Training licensed the test-organizing units and issued IELTS certificates again after the postponement. Of these, 41 were taking the master's exam, three were applying for the doctorate.

However, the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, on April 28 affirmed that foreign language certificates issued before the above time are still valid in enrollment and training.

"The graduate admissions department will contact each candidate and notify them to submit additional foreign language proficiency certificates in a timely manner to ensure the rights of the candidates," said a school representative.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy enrolls 782 master students and 164 doctoral students. The school applies a combined entrance exam for masters and only considers doctoral students.

Currently, the school receives a total of 1,416 applications for both levels.

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training from 2021, to apply for master's and doctoral programs, students must achieve foreign language proficiency levels 3 and 4 according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam, equivalent to an IELTS certificate from 4.0 to 6.5.
