Taiwan issued a landfall warning on Tuesday and evacuated more than 3,000 people ahead of Typhoon Fung-wong's landfall. Despite weakening, the storm is still forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the island's mountainous eastern coastal areas.

Typhoon Fung-wong is expected to make landfall on Taiwan's southwest coast, near the port city of Kaohsiung, on Wednesday, after earlier strengthening as it passed over the Philippines, killing at least 18 people.
After sweeping across Kaohsiung, the storm is forecast to cross mainland Taiwan and move out into the Pacific Ocean along the east coast, passing through sparsely populated counties such as Hualien and Taitung.
Authorities have ordered an emergency evacuation in Quang Phuc town, where floods killed 18 people in September, and said a total of 3,337 people in four districts and cities have been moved to safety.
